Pop Break Live: Jay & Silent Bob Get Old starring Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes with special guest Tommy Stinson at The Stone Pony in Asbury Park, NJ
It was the most Jersey night ever, we assure you.
Director Kevin Smith and actor Jason Mewes brought a hilarious night of stories and enough jokes about weed, sex, and Bruce Springsteen to The Stone Pony on Saturday April 27 as part of their Jay & Silent Bob Get Old tour.
The show was the inaugural event for Laffsbury Park — a series of comedy shows from the team of renowned music photographer Danny Clinch, Tim Donnelly (Clinch’s partner in Sea.Hear.Now) and HM Wollman. Laffsbury Park’s mission is to bring “unique comedy and music pairings to their beloved hometown venues through a myriad of one-off shows and curated weekends.”
Opening things up for Jay & Silent Bob Get Old was musician Tommy Stinson. Does the name sound familiar? Well, it certainly should. Stinson has played with The Replacements, Soul Asylum, Perfect, Bash & Pop, and Guns ‘n’ Roses.
After Stinson’s performance, New Jersey’s favorite hetero life partners hopped on stage and things got hilarious real quick for the main event of Jay & Silent Bob Get Old.
Smith commented that this was the first time he was ever in The Stone Pony — a startling fact given that part of his film Dogma was filmed in Asbury Park (albeit during the darker days of the city by the sea). Mewes immediately chimed in that he had had sex in the Pony parking lot before.
Smith talked about Bruce Springteen and that Bruce is part of the history of The Stone Pony. Jay said he once told Kevin Smith “Fuck Bruce Springsteen. One day I’m going to play The Pony.”
