AEW Dynamite 5/29/24 from the Kia Forum, the follow-up to Double or Nothing, kicks off with a celebration by the new TBS Champion Mercedes Mone. Intriguing might be the word for her promo. Very self-absorbed and self-centered, calling herself the greatest ever. Yet, at the same time puts over Willow Nightingale, and hopes she gets the chance to exact revenge on Kris Statlander and Stokely Hathaway.
Things take a turn when Skye Blue distracts Mone with a video recapping a blindsided attack, revealing it was her all along. Skye then sneaks up from behind and floors the new champion.
It is announced later in the show Mercedes will defend the TBS Championship against Skye Blue tonight.
Swerve Strickland defeated Killasaurus
This was a fun match. Swerve got to strike a lot on the giant dinosaur-like individual, as the big man absorbed all the shots and delivered a few of his own. The big shocker saw Luchaswitch kick out of the Top Rope Stomp, but was then dispatched for good with the House Call.
That was very unexpected.
Prince Nana is fantastic and I want his new merch.
Video package airs featuring CMLL Women’s Champion and NJPW Strong Women’s Champion, Stephanie Vaquer. She will be involved at Forbidden Door.
Very cool. Very exciting.
Here is an exclusive look at the NJPW Strong Women’s Champion, CMLL World Women’s Champion & CMLL World Women’s Tag Team Champion Stephanie Vaquer!

The First Episode of TV Time with Chris Jericho
Wow, he is hamming it up in every way possible. Crowd boos and Jericho talks about how he just loves getting more TV time. After an audio assault of a series of horrible cliches and catchphrases, Bryan Keith is brought out and seems to play the role of raging angry guy. Big Bill slips a moniker of his own… saying Keith is a “bad apple.”
Welp, I still hate this gimmick, and I believe this is exactly what Jericho wants.
“Who wants more TV time? You know I do!!!” – Jericho isn’t gimmicking here.
Hook comes out to spoil the party, suplexing security guys all over the place. He is about to storm the ring but is stopped by SAMOA JOE!? Joe whispers something to Hook and they walk off backstage.
Renee Paquette catches up with them and Joe says the fight will be on their terms.
Jon Moxley defeated Rocky Romero in an IWGP Eliminator Match
Blunt honesty, what is the purpose of these “Eliminator” matches? The challenger never wins. Look it up. Never. If I’m wrong, I’ll buy you a donut.
It was a good match, and I will never complain about Romero wrestling. He’s solid.
Mox wins with a devastatingly-looking Death Rider.
Don Callis offers Orange Cassidy a Contract which is torn up verrrrrrrry sloooooooowly. Comical. However, in a twist, Stokley and Statlander show up to formally accept on behalf of their “best friend” into the Callis Family… TRENT BARRETTA!Trent beats Cassidy bloody, then commits a heinous crime… Hugging it out with Don Callis.
I dig this direction. I dig it a lot.
Mercedes Mone retains the TBS Championship against Skye Blue
Excellent first title defense. As proven last night at Double or Nothing, Mone has not ring rust at all. Skye Blue made a great first challenger, and to be honest, I do hope she gets another opportunity in the future. Skye has also proven herself to be a quick study and can hang with the main event title scene.
Post match, Stephanie Vaquer shows up and appears to challenge Mercedes. Guess we have our first crossover match for Forbidden Door.
Promo package for Maxwell Jacob Friedman. He will be on Dynamite next week.
Backstage: Daniel Garcia wants to earn a shot at the AEW International Championship. Garcia vs. Will Ospreay? Let’s make it happen!
The Elite promo segment
The present Okada with a new car, and then announce Adam Copeland is being stripped of the TNT Championship. But, we need a titleholder so they award the belt to Jack Perry. However, before Perry can claim it, Christopher Daniels arrives, ordained by Tony Khan as interim EVP. He announces a tournament-style qualifier where the final winners will compete to crowd a new champion at Forbidden Door.
The Bucks attempt to fight, but The Acclaimed arrive to back up Daniels.
Well, I imagine Perry will be in the tournament. I hope we get some crossover with either NJPW or CMLL. I would have thought Daniel Garcia would be a good contender instead of fodder for Ospreay. I’m not sure who they could potentially crown as champion. Perhaps a return by Scorpio Sky or perhaps this is redemption for the currently directionless Konosuke Takeshita.
AEW Casino Gauntlet Battle Royal Match
Wow. Totally did not expect this finish. With Lio Rush, PAC, Jay White, Mistico, Henchicero, Claudio Castignoli, “Shooter” Shota Umino, Orange Cassidy, all in the match, it felt like a toss up. However it would be Will Ospreay who wins and will face Swerve Strickland for the AEW World Championship at Forbidden Door III. Insane.
You know what else is insane? Watching Will Ospreay and Lio Rush move like somebody hit the fast forward button on the VCR.
With Garcia vying for a shot at the International Championship, could Ospreay wrestle twice?
I can’t fathom AEW taking the championship title off Swerve so soon, but will Ospreay get his first loss here? I am a tad bummed the AEW Championship match does not feature a crossover with either CMLL or NJPW, but this time I make an exception because Swerve v. Ospreay is going to explode.
The best part? I WILL BE THERE TO SEE IT LIVE.
