AEW Dynamite 7/31 Review: AEW is Going All In on Major Stories

The road to All In continues this week as tensions continue to build and boil. We open with MJF and his ongoing over-the-top patriotic antics. These anti-International comments bring out an irate Will Ospreay. He vehemently denounces everything the Cornette-jacket-wearing American Champion says. Ospreay wants a fight, but it doesn’t come from MJF, instead his opponent for tonight, “Murderhawk” Lance Archer comes out.

Will Ospreay defeated Lance Archer

Really impressive match. Archer overpowered Ospreay a number of times and could have believably won the match. However, Ospreys tenacity proves to be the factor in which he manages to hit two consecutive Hidden Blades for the win. Post match, MJF attacks Ospreay, who is saved by Kyle Fletcher who challenges MJF to a match.

MJF agrees, but for next week.

Ospreay seemed to struggle with his promo, but the point was made. MJF is the arrogant patriot, much like Kurt Angle in his heel days.

Backstage: Chris Jericho taunts Shibata and says next week he will face “Bad Apple” Bryan Keith.

Hi guys! I’m astonished this is still over. It’s so corny you can’t not hate it.

Kris Statlander defeated Willow Nightingale to earn a shot at the CMLL Women’s Championship

Another fantastic match between them. Fantastic. I have yet to see a faulty match between them. Statlander looked phenomenal tonight. Willow never fails to deliver a good match. Both tell stories using great facial expressions and body language. Despite a great match, Statlander used a metal chain to KO the CMLL Champion for the pinfall.

I could see these two fight forever and never complain.

Bryan Danielson promo: This gave me chills, and I might have teared up a bit. He talks about his career, and references that his official contract with AEW expires tomorrow (August 1, 2024). Swerve comes out and offers respect, but this quickly changes tones very quickly as Swerve, with intense focus, drives the point home he has no intention of losing, and Danielson may never fulfill his promise of winning the AEW World Championship. Danielson then says, he will put his career on the line, and will never wrestle again should he lose. Well, that got intense!

When a stipulation like career versus championship is made, I would this the one giving up career wins. However, it is no secret Danielson is going to stop wrestling. He is going to hang up the boots. Then again, in the wrestling industry no one truly stays retired forever. Is it possible Danielson may lose? Absolutely.

Mariah May and Renee Paquette have a sit down where May is abosultely viciously venomous with her manipulation of Toni Storm to gain her main event spotlight. Solid promo. Honestly I’m looking forward to their match the most.

Toni Storm later came out on stage and took another step towards her descent into insanity.

“The Brickhouse” Kamille defeat local enhancement talent

Kamille got to show off her strength and abilities in front of a live AEW audience for the first time. Those familiar with her work on the indies and in NWA will see a lot of familiar moves. She dominates and wins. Mercedes Mone cuts a promo against her All In opponent. She seemed to lose some steam on her promo.

If Mone has Kamille, I imagine Baker will need some backup as well. Perhaps a return by Jamie Hayter?

Main Event: Darby Allin defeated “Hangman” Adam Page

A lot of fun to watch. Page appears to destroy Darby and no-sell any offense he could muster. Darby’s selling is near-perfection. Probably doesn’t have a choice since he likely tells his dance partners to go to town. After being tossed like a ragdoll, he manages to roll up Page for a crazy pinfall. Keep in mind, this comes after being thrown into ring stairs, the arena floor, and multiple drops on his head. An irate Page goes after the ref. Poor Bryce.

Page is going to become more unhinged. Calling it. He might just start mauling random employees backstage. I am very invested in Angry Millennial Cowboy. This is the Adam Page we need in 2024, and 2025.

AEW Dynamite 7/31 is now streaming on the TBS app and on demand via your cable operator.
