AEW Dynamite 8/7/24 was a fun episode of Dynamite, with an action filled opener between Kyle Fletcher and Maxwell Jacob Friedman. Fun match, even with the obvious outcome of MJF winning. That being said, Fletcher really got to shine while MJF played the 80s-90s over-the-top heel. He’s good at what he does. He let Kyle get the massive pops from the crowd and would sneak in his own offensive and underhanded tactics. Despite the loss Fletcher looked damn good. It took MJF some cheating to win.
Weird stuff during the match, Will Ospreay was seen trying to get to the ring, but the door was blocked? Then took a really long time to make the save, while Don Callis who was on commentary tried to play sympathetic, but also chided Ospreay for not being there to save Kyle.
Big flaw here, how about any OTHER members of the Callis Family?
Mariah May defeated Viva Van
You know, if they are going to feature an image hyping the match with Van in it, maybe the ring announcer should have a tad more energy when announcing Viva’s name? This a prolonged squash match.
The real fun begins after, when Mariah is presented with a gift, revealed to be a giant picture of Toni Storm hugging May. But… on the back reads Die Mariah Die. A wild Storm appears and a brawl breaks out.
Katsuyori Shibata defeated “Bad Apple” Bryan Keith
Pretty good match. Lots of chain wrestling, countered holds, and each one working over the arm to gain a submission. Shibata managed to one-up Keith for the win. Post match, Chris Jericho and Big Bill rushed the ring but the return of Hook sent the Learning Tree packing.
Backstage: Orange Cassidy and Renee Paquette discuss the weather impacting travel issues, as a result, the rest of the Conglomeration did not make it to the show. However, O.C. assures her he has some local friends who will be his partner.
Backstage: “Hangman” Adam Page is a crazy, crazy man.
Orange Cassidy introduces his partners, from North Carolina, FTR! Dax and Cash both sporting denim jackets and sunglasses, in uniform with Cassidy. Dax is wearing the Bret Hart shades. Fun match with OFTR getting the win over Rush, The Beast Mortos, and Roderick Strong. It’s a very interesting assorted trio that got a decisive win over the Congolmeration last week on Collision. Enjoyable, fun. Simple as that.
Kamille defeated Two Local Wrestlers
Meh. Mercedes Mone gloats about Dr. Britt Baker DMD being suspended (kayfabe), but is interrupted by Tony Schiavone who informs us the good doctor will be back on Dynamite next week.
The segment didn’t really need the Wardlow treatment. Didn’t need a pointless dual-squash. Something feels off when Mercedes starts the promo using face-tactics to pop a crowd and then awkwardly goes back into heel mode. Just doesn’t feel fluid.
Bryan Danielson defeated Jeff Jarrett in a No DQ Match
Pretty good match. Jarrett was able to keep up with Danielson with surprising ease. Nothing spectacular, but didn’t have to be. Like many of the other matches tonight, it was fun to watch. Look, let’s be honest, Danielson wasn’t going to lose. Some wild chair spots during the match, with one of the final chair shots apparently busting open Jarrett hardway on the side of his face.
Ricky Steamboat joined commentary for this, and got into the ring to celebrate with both Danielson and Jarrett. However as the two embraced, AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland came out to cut a solid promo on Danielson. He wants his warm up match too, and challenges Wheeler Yuta to a match next week.
Fun episode of Dynamite. No more needs to be said.
