The Sixth Sense is a psychological thriller film written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan. It opened in theaters on August 6, 1999.
In the film, child psychologist Malcom Crowe (Bruce Willis) attempts to help his patient Cole Sear (Haley Joel Osment), who sees ghosts. Other characters include Cole’s mother Lynn (Toni Collette), Malcom’s wife Anna (Olivia Williams), Malcolm’s former patient Vincent Gray (Donnie Wahlberg), and the ghost of Kyra Collins (Mischa Barton).
The Sixth Sense was a colossal critical and commercial hit, finishing behind Star Wars: Episode I as the second highest grossing film of 1999. It earned Oscar nominations for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Film Editing, Best Supporting Actor for Osment and Best Supporting Actress for Toni Collette.
In 2013, the Writers Guild of America ranked the film’s screenplay #50 on its list of the 101 greatest screenplays ever written.
