Pop Break Live: Keane ‘Hopes and Fears 20th Anniversary’ at The Met in Philly on Saturday September 21, 2024
British band Keane performed to a sold out crowd at the Met in Philadelphia on Saturday night September 21. The band is touring to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their multi-million selling classic album Hopes and Fears.
It was an electric vibe in the Met. Hopes and Fears is an album that is truly beloved. It’s very melodic and is the type of album where its lyrics just get stuck in your head. Almost every song they played got an extremely loud extended ovation — almost as if it was an encore song! Hearing anthem-like songs “Bend and Brake,” ” Your Eyes Open,” “This is The Last Time,” “Everybody’s Changing,” and “Somewhere Only We Know” sung by the crowd and band was definitely a highlight. The band sounded incredible and lead singer Tom Chaplin‘s vocal range on some songs was unreal.
Other songs that stood out that were not on the album were the rockin’ “The Way I Feel,” “Sunshine” and fists-in-the-air anthems “A Bad Dream” and “Hamburg Song.” Chapman’s banter with the crowd was amusing throughout the night. He also shared a little bit about the ups and downs he has had over the years as well. He was endearing and very inspirational.
There was a four song encore which ended with “Bedshaped.” On a personal note, Hopes and Fears has always been one of my very favorite albums. There is something about these lush melodies on this album that I find so soothing and calming that in times of personal stress I chose this album to play every time. Its better than any drug. It may sound corny but music does heal. The show was pure magic and this audience was a big part of that. So glad I can cross them off my bucket list.
