WWE, in conjunction with the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority (NJSEA), has announced that their seminal summertime show, SummerSam, will emanate from MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ on Saturday August 2 and Sunday August 3, 2025.
The announcement was dropped on social media in collaboration with red hot hip-hop artist Cardi B, in a video which also featured WWE Superstar Bianca Belair.
SummerSlam is returning to the Northeast for the first time since 2018 when it took place at The Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY. Yhis is the first time since 2007 since SummerSlam has taken placed from East Rutherford (that show took place in the now defunct IZOD Center/Continental Airlines Arena across the parking lot for the stadium).

MetLife Stadium is no stranger to WWE PLEs. It has hosted two Wrestlemanias — the first featuring John Cena vs. The Rock in 2013, while the second featured Dave Batista’s final match and the historic, first-ever women’s main event of Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair vs. Ronda Rousey in 2019.
Earlier this year WWE had announced that SummerSlam was moving to two nights starting in 2025, as the company continues to expand it’s cornerstone PLE’s into weekend-long cultural events.
“New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy and the entire NJSEA team have been phenomenal partners, hosting several major UFC events in recent years including the record-breaking UFC 302 in June,” said Peter Dropick, TKO Executive Vice President of Event Development and Operations in a WWE-issued press release. “We’re excited to bring WWE back to New Jersey in a major way with the first-ever two-night SummerSlam at MetLife Stadium.”
In a press release WWE stated, “SummerSlam 2024 at Cleveland Browns Stadium drew a crowd of 57,719 fans, generating the largest gate of any event – outside of WrestleMania® – in WWE history. Additionally, SummerSlam 2024 set all-time records for viewership, sponsorship, merchandise and social media.”
