Socially Distanced #230: The Penguin and The Future of James Gunn’s DCU

he Socially Distanced Podcast was created by two pop culture-obsessed dads during COVID who decided to take their Facebook messenger conversations and turn them into a podcast. In 2022 they brought their friend, a pop culture-obsessed mom to the show, and things got even better!

Join hosts Amanda Rivas and Bill Bodkin as they discuss everything in the world movies, music, sports, television and pop culture — everything keeping them sane in this time of socially distancing. This podcast is powered by ThePopBreak.com.

Pop Break heads to Gotham City to review the first two episodes of the hit MAX series The Penguin.

Bill Bodkin, is in the host seat, and is joined by co-host Amanda Rivas and the brand new dynamic duo of the Batman by the Numbers Podcast — Dan Cohen and Kris Ingersoll of The Media Lit Podcast.

In the episode they discuss their hype level for the series, which serves as a direct sequel/bridge, to Matt Reeves’ 2022 film, The Batman. They discuss Colin Farrell’s surefire Emmy nomination, Cristin Milioti’s show stealing performance as Sophia Falcone, the vibe of the series, the future of the series and will The Penguin’s scheming work, and finally how they feel about the distinct lack of Batman in the series.

In the pre-game segment they do a DC Studios temperature check discussing the Lanterns casting drama, the trailer for Creature Commandos, and the new Dynamic Duo film and the potential of the new Superman film.

In a cold opening Bill thanks a lot of people who’ve helped make Pop Break what it is.
