AEW heads to the West Coast as they present the second annual WrestleDream pay-per-view event. Many of the hometown heroes have huge showcase matches on this show including the World Heavyweight Champion facing off against Jon Moxley in the main event. Let’s hope I can keep this momentum going with my predictions and beat Bill for the second AEW pay-per-view.
Zero Hour:
ROH World Television Championship: Atlantis Jr. vs Brian Cage:
Kimmy: I need someone to explain why we have more ROH champions appearing on this pay-per-view than we get on the weekly ROH show. Atlantis Jr. has not been seen on ROH/AEW programming since the September 12th ROH episode when he defeated Peter Avalon in a Proving Grounds match. Cage is 30-0 in ROH singles matches and is one of the only people who shows up on ROH TV somewhat regularly. I’ll pick him just so I have a consistent ROH TV Champion.
Winner: “And New” Brian Cage
Bill: Atlantis Jr. is someone CMLL is firmly behind. He is the future of that company, so I don’t see him losing his ROH TV Title to Brian Cage, or dropping that title any time soon. Cage will given him a good match as he’s always been excellent with smaller opponents.
Winner: “And Still” Atlantis Jr.
MAIN SHOW
ROH World Heavyweight Championship: Mark Briscoe vs Chris Jericho:
Kimmy: I will only be okay with this if this decision leads to ROH being part of the new TV Deal.
Winner: “And New” Chris Jericho
Bill: I would love to say this will be the inverse of Jericho 101 as Jericho pinned Mark at Grand Slam. So, it would make sense that Mark gets the W here. And let’s face it, he should. But if Tony Khan is really, truly and honestly shopping ROH (it makes no sense why TruTV wouldn’t sign up for new programming) then you put the belt on someone who has the name and is still a bona fide draw.
Winner: “And New” Chris Jericho
Two out of Three Falls: Hologram vs The Beast Mortos:
Kimmy: In my opinion, I would have let Mortos just run rampant amongst the AEW locker room and not affiliate him with LFI, but here we are. Since TK at the moment is investing a lot in Hologram especially with him being 15-0 going into this show, I will go with him to win this one.
Winner: Hologram
Bill: I think we see Hologram eat his first pinfall during this match, but ultimately coming out on top in AEW’s version of Rey Mysterio vs. Psicosis. Mortos is going to be made to look like an absolute star here, and it’s pretty obvious that the new Jake Roberts-led LFI is going to interfere or beat down Hologram at some point leading to a number of matches with Hologram and friends (TBD … but imagine if it were Vikingo) against LFI.
Winner: Hologram
Darby Allin vs Brody King:
Kimmy: This match should be fun. King is going to manhandle Allin the whole time and throw him around like a rag doll. We also see a returning Julia Hart here trying to help King win the match, but the Washington crowd needs one hometown hero to win on this show.
Winner: Darby Allin
Bill: This is the first step in Darby’s road to the AEW World Title. I truly think they are going to go in a similar, highly emotional road to Darby winning the title, not unlike Hangman’s run in 2021. Brody and Darby always have fun matches and this will be no different. I do think AEW needs to get behind Brody King ASAP as a singles star.
Winner: Darby Allin
Jay White vs Adam Page:
Kimmy: This match is one of the hardest ones to call on the whole card. On one hand White just came back to TV and he can not afford a loss right now. Page also just came off that killer feud with Swerve and he also has so much momentum that he can’t afford a loss either. The IWC is going to be mad with this one, but I am picking Page to win since he is one of the biggest heels in the company at the moment.
Winner: Adam Page
Bill: AEW realizes that it is truly time to breathe with the Switchblade. Jay White is going to get the W here, but Hangman’s unhinged antics will lead to a violent “Texas Death” match at Full Gear in November.
Winner: Jay White
AEW TNT Championship: Jack Perry vs Katsuyori Shibata:
Kimmy: Sleeper match of the whole card in this one. Perry has been doing some of his strongest work in this heel turn, but as the “workhorse champion,” I do wish he wrestled more on the week-to-week programming. Perry will win this one and move on to whatever is next for him and the EVPs.
Winner: “And Still” Jack Perry
Bill: This match is here to serve two purposes — to further prove Jack Perry can hang with a great technical wrestler and serve as a gateway to Perry vs. Daniel Garcia at Full Gear.
Winner: “And Still” Jack Perry
MXM (Mansoor and Mason Madden) vs The Acclaimed (Max Caster vs Anthony Bowens):
Kimmy: This does not need to be a match on this pay-per-view. This show already has a lot of matches and this feud is not the center point on any of the three AEW TV Programs. The Acclaimed will get the win, but if neither one of these teams is facing the tag titles after this, who cares?
Winners: The Acclaimed (Max Caster vs Anthony Bowens)
Bill: This a big yikes. I think MxM Collection are a fun team, and are a bit underrated when it comes to their in-ring. However, that Grand Slam fashion show segment reeked of lowest point WWE and TNA (hmm, maybe don’t hire writers from that era anymore) and it hurt the tip-touchers. The Acclaimed is just so stale at this point. Caster needs to turn heel on Bowens. Billy Gunn needs to stop being such a dominant force in the ring (he is almost 60!) because it makes The Acclaimed opponents look bad. I want MxM to win here so The Acclaimed break-up, but somehow I doubt that happens.
Winners: The Acclaimed (Max Caster vs Anthony Bowens)
AEW International Championship: Will Ospreay vs Ricochet vs Konosuke Takeshita:
Kimmy: If you are new here I am going to teach you a very important lesson. Triple-threat matches happen in wrestling to protect people, and in this case, Ospreay will be the one protected. Since Ospreay just won back the title in August he can not afford to lose so soon, however, someone like Ricochet who can continue to feud with Ospreay amongst others can afford to take the loss in this match. That is why the Don Callis family will be taking a rare win here with a new champion.
Winner: “And New” Konosuke Takeshita
Bill: It’s time to pull the trigger on Takeshita. He’s been over for a long time. People want to see him ascend to the top. Being in the G1 brought his stock up huge. Let’s make it happen.
Winner: “And New” Konosuke Takeshita
AEW World Tag Team Championship: The Young Bucks (Matthew and Nicholas Jackson) vs Private Party (Zay and Quen):
Kimmy: Although I do believe Private Party will be the ones to dethrone the Bucks, I do not think it will be at this show. I think the Bucks win this one via DQ and then they run this back at Full Gear and Private Party gets the win there. Since Full Gear is closer to home they can get a hometown pop for one of the biggest wins of their careers.
Winners: “And Still” The Young Bucks (Matthew and Nicholas Jackson)
Bill: The EVPs will come out on top here, but it’ll be a coming out party for Zay and Quen. They’ve never been able to top their match with The Bucks from 5 years ago, and hopefully this changes that. I believe they’ll add Stokely Hathaway at some point to give them an edge that they desperately need.
Winners: “And Still” The Young Bucks (Matthew and Nicholas Jackson)
AEW Women’s World Championship: Mariah May vs Willow Nightingale:
Kimmy: Not much to say about this one. With all the momentum May had after winning the title, she has to retain here. We still have the unfinished business with Mina and Toni so until that gets settled expect May to hold that title for the time being.
Winner: “And Still” Mariah May
Bill: Much like Perry vs. Shibata, this match is here to solidify the current champion who has been cold since winning the belt, and then bridge the gap to other opponents. I believe we get Mariah beating Willow, then continuing the beat down after the match leading to Mina Shirakawa returning and stopping her. We get Mina vs. Mariah at Full Gear, with “Timeless” Toni Storm returning as a surprise at that show.
Winner: “And Still” Mariah May
AEW World Championship: Bryan Danielson vs Jon Moxley:
Kimmy: There is a lot to unpack with this one so let’s try to go in order. This match is going to be great and no matter who gets involved and all of that stuff nothing is going to take away from this match. I do believe that the higher power is going to be revealed during this match. Wheeler Yuta, Josh Barnett, Sami Callihan, Shane McMahon, or someone else and that will be one of the deciding factors for the post-match brawl. I think Danielson gets the win but Moxley and company beat down Danielson in front of his friends and family. After that Christian Cage will cash in his title match and walk out of WrestleDream the new AEW World Heavyweight Champion. This sets up Bryan vs Cage at Full Gear which will potentially be his last match before he turns into a part-time wrestler.
Winner: “And Still” Bryan Danielson/ “And New” Christian Cage
Bill: This is my riskiest call. I think we see Bryan Danielson’s final match as a full-time wrestler on Saturday. I don’t think you can have Mox lose because his mission to change AEW gets completely derailed. Moxley with the belt has always been good for business and if he’s going to be your A #1 heel, you gotta put the gold on him. I do agree with Kimmy something wild is going to happen here. Does Wheeler turn heel? Moxley just trademarked “Switchblade Conspiracy” — does that Sami Callihan is coming in? We can’t rule out Josh Barnett or Shane McMahon or both, either.
Winner: “And New” Jon Moxley
AEW WrestleDream 2024 is streaming live on Triller TV on Saturday, October 12th at 8 PM EST.
The current record in Bill vs Kimmy is 5-3-5
