Only Murders in the Building Season 4 has been a bumpy, show-biz-filled ride, but we’ve finally hit the finale. Wedding bells are ringing in the Only Murders in the Building Season 4 Finale, and we even have something borrowed – Sazz’s script, which was enough to kill her.

In the previous episode, we saw Marshall P. Pope a.k.a. Rex a.k.a. Sazz’s protege (Jin Ha, Pachinko) unmasked as the killer. Charles and Oliver quickly find out that Mabel is being held hostage in her apartment. Marshall/Rex then holds Mabel at gunpoint, and Charles decides it’s time to save the day. He couldn’t save Sazz – but he can rescue Mabel.

He and Oliver pay a visit to Vince Fish (Richard Kind, Inside Out) and Rudy (Kumail Nanjiani, The Big Sick), since Mabel is trapped next door. Charles and Oliver decide to walk on the building ledge to bust in through the window and save her life. The Westies help, too, ringing the doorbell to distract Marshall while the guys break into the apartment. But Charles doesn’t want to just leave; he wants revenge for what Marshall did to his friend.

So, as they manage to subdue Marshall for now and point a weapon at him (Eva Longoria’s 19-in-one multitool), Marshall dives into his story. He’d always wanted to be a writer – not a hunter, like his dad had hoped. And when he messed up being a stuntman, Sazz still gave him another chance. She said she’d happily read his script, and asked if he could be the first person to read her own.

But Marshall had other plans. Once he read it, he realized how amazing it was compared to his own, and Marshall decided to lie to Sazz, while taking it for himself and sending it to Hollywood execs. As we all know, Bev Melon picked it up. Sazz got a hold of it through her stunt and industry friends and put the pieces together. Soon enough, she confronted Marshall and said she’d reveal the truth – which soon led to Marshall’s plan to kill her before she could expose him.

In the end, the murderer was truly revealed in episode nine, and it was just one person: an athletic, rejected, wannabe writer and stuntman. Who knew? Even though yours truly was still suspicious of Bev Melon to the end, Marshall was the one true culprit. Marshall finishes his story and is about to murder the true-crime trio…but he gets taken down first, with a gun from across the Arconia, by none other than an escaped Jan! There really are way too many bullets flying to and from the Westies’ windows.

Jan is arrested again, and all is well in the Arconia. Loretta (Meryl Streep, The Devil Wears Prada) and Oliver have a lovely wedding ceremony – now that the killer is caught – where we see some really sweet moments between Mabel, Charles, and Oliver. At the end of the day, they are truly a family. That’s why when Loretta says she has to move to New Zealand for the show she’s filming, she says she can’t take Oliver away from the others, even though he volunteers to move for her. Their relationship has always been unconventional, and this is just a new chapter for the pair.

The Only Murders movie also continues on, with Sazz’s script. In hindsight, we all should’ve realized just how connected the murder and the movie were. Still, it’s really nice that Sazz’s film gets a happy ending, even though she didn’t get the same.

Wow, would you look at that? Everyone’s happy. We almost made it through a whole season finale without a body! But we should have known better.

First, a woman named Sofia Caccimelio (Téa Leoni, Madam Secretary) comes to the trio and asks them to look into her missing husband, Nicky. They turn her down, but Sofia says  that Nicky’s disappearance has everything to do with the Arconia, which definitely raises some eyebrows. It’s undoubtedly going to be investigated next season, and it’ll probably be connected to the next murder.

Speaking of, while everyone winds down and the episode is about to come to a close, Mabel, Charles, and Oliver stumble upon something horrifying. You guessed it – it’s another murder in the building (technically, outside in the courtyard, but still). It’s none other than Lester (Teddy Coluca, The Blacklist). It’s sad to see someone who has been there from the very start, tipping his hat inside of the Arconia, gone in a flash – something that likely has everything to do with the missing person.

Though it still feels like maybe not everything was fully explained, it is Only Murders in the Building. The questionable holes from Season 1 that are still left unfilled will definitely be coming to the forefront next season. Since Lester has been here since season one and somehow was the target of this crime, we’ll get to uncover what’s been going on for the last few seasons and how it’s all connected. One thing is for sure: it’s going to be another unpredictable, messy mystery for our favorite podcasters!

Only Murders in the Building Season 4 Finale is now streaming on Hulu.
