Pop Break Live: Gogol Bordello ‘Casa Gogol Holiday Tour’ with Puzzled Panther and Pons at Brooklyn Bowl Philly on December 30, 2024
Gogol Bordello knows how to throw a party.
The eclectic and electric Lower East Side-based band brought their raucous blend of Romani and Ukrainian influenced punk, dub and folk for the first time on this annual tour to Brooklyn Bowl Philly. (Yes, there’s a Brooklyn Bowl and it’s been open since 2021).
The tour, dubbed the “Casa Gogol” Holiday Tour was named after the new record label found by Gogol Bordello’s frontman Eugene Hütz. The tour featured Casa Gogol labelmates Puzzled Panther (which featured Hütz and Brian Chase of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs) and the band, Pons. Puzzled Panther jammed with Gogol Bordello on “Fire on Ice Floe” and “From Boyarka To Boyacan” while Pons jammed on “We Mean It Man.”
The set featured all the Gogol classics like “Immigraniada (We Comin’ Rougher)” and “Start Wearing Purple” and the Philly ate up every ounce of the wild energy Eugene Hütz and company poured into the set.
Gogol Bordello has re-emerged into the pop culture consciousness as their music has been a central part of James Gunn’s Creature Commandos series which is currently airing on MAX. The band even appeared, in animated form, in the pilot episode.
