Pop Break Live: Dawes ‘Oh Brother’ Tour with Michigander at The Fillmore in Philadelphia, PA on Friday April 11, 2025
LA Indie folk-rock band Dawes played an 18-song set at the Fillmore in Philadelphia on April 11th. Dawes is now a duo consisting of brothers Taylor and Griffin Goldsmith and are touring in support of their critically acclaimed album Oh Brother, released in October 2024.
The show opened up with Michigander, the moniker for Jason Singer. His self-titled album was released two months ago and was met with really favorable reviews. Critics praised his songwriting skills and anthemic melodic indie rock sound.
Armed with an acoustic guitar, Singer came out to the stage and told the audience that his drummer would not be playing that evening. He took it in stride and he and his guitarist, Jake LeMond, played a crowd pleasing set. You could tell his heartfelt lyrics on many of the songs really resonated with the audience. His banter with the crowd during the show was playful and funny at times. A few of the highlights included “I’ll Be Ok’ and the melodic catchy”Superglue”.
Dawes opened up with “Front Row Seat” one of many excellent songs off their latest album. They were backed by a stellar 4-piece band. Their jam on “Ghost In the Machine” was incredible. Goldsmith told the crowd that he had something in common with Philly as they had the MLB champs the LA Dodgers and we had the Eagles. There were a few boos and he said if they continued it would be a rough night for them. The fans laughed.
The crowd had a huge reaction on some of the bands most beloved songs like “A Little bit of Everything,” “All Your Favorite Bands” and When my Time Comes in which the crowd sang the last chorus solo. It was loud! One of the truly special moments of the show was on the stunningly beautiful acoustic version of “Time Spent in Los Angeles.”
It was just Taylor alone on stage under two spotlights. The encore included “Most People” and ended with the song Dawes had the honor of performing at the opening of the 2025 Grammys, Randy Newman’s “I love LA.” This was one of those very special performances that you won’t soon forget.
A big thank you to radio station WXPN for consistently introducing new artists to their listeners over the last few decades. This band is one of those gems.
