Pop Break Live: Anna Shoemaker on Mallrat’s “Light Hit My Face Like a Straight Right” Tour at The Foundry at The Fillmore on Wednesday May 7, 2025
Singer-songwriter Anna Shoemaker performed at the Foundry in Philly on May 7th. Shoemaker, a Philly native who now resides in LA, is touring in support of her long awaited second studio album Someone Should Stop Her. The album was released in February. Shoemaker was added as a support act on popular Australian artist Mallrat’s North American tour. The tour ends on June 5 in Los Angeles, California.
Shoemaker, armed with a guitar, opened her 7-song setlist with “Fields,” one of the many great songs from her latest release. She was accompanied on stage by another guitarist during the set. She followed that song up with six other songs off the same album. It’s not very often you get to hear just the new stuff during an artist’s set. The fans sang along and were loving it. Two songs that stood out were the ever-so catchy melodic gems, “Game of Thrones” and the closing song “Holly.”
It seems like over the last few years there there has been a noticeable influx of talented female singer-songwriters who don’t fit the old “cookie cutter” mold and Anna is one of them. This is definitely an artist you want to get to know.
