Lucia Field was born to wiggle.

Field has been part of the lineup of the acclaimed Australian children’s entertainment group The Wiggles since 2022, but she’s been in the Wiggles’ family for her entire life. Her father, Anthony Field, is a co-founder of the group and its sole remaining original member.

“I basically grew up at Wiggles HQ and with everybody around there being my family,” Lucia Field tells us. “That’s why I’m so comfortable at work and on stage. And it really is special. Not a lot of people get to say that they work with their family. But it just means that we’re all so comfortable with putting out ideas and working together and making little notes on different performances or songs.”

Field, her father and the rest of the Wiggles are currently on the road in North America for the Bouncing Balls Tour!, which plays the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta on Wednesday, June 25, followed by the Ovens Auditorium in Charlotte, North Carolina for two shows on Thursday, June 26, then Capital One Hall in Tysons, Virginia for two performances on Friday, June 27.

Next is the Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, New York for two shows on Saturday, June 28 before the United States dates wrap up with two shows at the Emerson Colonial Theatre in Boston on Sunday, June 29. Then, the Wiggles have seven shows from July 4 to 6 at FirstOntario Concert Hall in Hamilton, Ontario before the tour returns them to Australia for a run of dates in Melbourne in July.

Field, who sings, dances and plays drums in the group, is part of the latest iteration of the Wiggles, an eight-person line-up that was behind both the band’s 100th album since 1991 – Wiggle and Learn: 100 Educational Songs for Children, released in 2024 — and the country music-informed Wiggle Up, Giddy Up! released earlier this year featuring collaborations with the likes of everyone from Dolly Parton to Orville Peck.

The Bouncing Balls Tour! is crowd-pleasing endeavor, a multi-generational experience on stage and in the audience where fans can expect both new numbers and tried-and-true classics such as “Fruit Salad,” “Hot Potato” and “Do the Propeller.” The tour, as Field explained, allows her and her fellow Wiggles to connect with families of Wiggles faithful.

“It’s so, so special. It’s also been so surreal, and on stage before we sing ‘Fruit Salad,’ Dad says, ‘This song goes out to Murray, Jeff and Greg, the original Wiggles, and all the original Wiggles fans,’ and all these parents stand up and they’ve got their children there with them,” she said. “And it’s the most incredible full circle moment.”

And while she has spent her life in the Wiggles’ world, Field said there was still a learning curve when it was time for her to join the group the year after she graduated from a performing arts high school.

“Even though I did grow up with the Wiggles, I was always just a dancer, and I never really expected to be a Wiggle,” she said. “And when I became one, I really did have to learn how to speak in front of a camera and to speak on stage and to sing, actually – I’d been a ballet dancer my whole life, so it was a very different learning curve. And I’ve also learned how to speak to children, how to interact with children, I’ve learned so much of that from Dad, and also I’ve also learned the reason why we do certain things on stage: why certain lyrics are the way they are, why we sing a certain way, why we talk a certain way.

“It’s been a full learning experience, and I’ve been learning every single day since. I really do think all of that has helped me become a better performer and actually become more confident in my everyday life, really. I’m usually a very shy person, but because I am now a Wiggle I am talking to new people every single day, so yeah, it’s changed my life for the better.”
