Preview: Captain Planet #4 (Dynamite Comics)

Are we up to Captain Planet #4 already? Man this series is flying by!

*checks notes*

YES. Last issue came out mere weeks ago along with David Pepose’s other masterpieces, Space Ghost and Speed Racer! Welp, here we are once again, so thank you Mr. Pepose for keeping me employed. Haha.

Speaking of being employed, it seems Lucian Plunder appears to be employing one of the recently deserting Planeteers, the Fire-Elemental ring-bearer in John Wheeler. As the rest of the Planeteers are having crisis of conscience and self-doubt after recent events, questioning their ability to advocate for the elemental building blocks of Earth, Mr. Wheeler finds himself being sweet-talked by Plunder into aligning himself with a more modern and corporate way of thinking.

Ma-Ti, the Heart-Elemental ring-bearer seems to be The only one who can communicate with Captain Planet. he finds his ability to read the hearts of the population to take a tragic hit on his confidence and self-esteem. he tells the captain of his nightmares, and struggles to find the heart in his mission when the hearts of the population  feel indifferent about their endeavors.

Yes, it’s fairly clear this is a parallel to current times.

Ultimately, decisions are made and things take a sharp left turn away from the Captain Planet the adults grew up with.

As the rest of the team mount a rescue mission for Gaia, things take and even further turn for the worst. There is an absolutely fantastic panel in which DC fans will notice a striking resemblance to Parallax.

My praise for the team working tirelessly on each issue knows no bounds. I am truly inspired and in awe of David Pepose and his ability to  recreate stories and Legacies with characters I grew up with in Captain Planet, Space ghost, and Speed Racer. A part of me truly wishes I could have the mental capacity, time and creative ability to do what he does. As always, praise has to be given to artist Eman Casallos, colorist Jorge Sutil, letter Jeff Eckleberry, and editor Joe Rybandt who likely finds sleep to be a rare commodity with all the work he’s had to do recently.

As always, I try to tag all these creative minds on various social media platforms, so I apologize if for whatever reason I’m unable to locate a user tag.

keep up the good work all, it’s an exciting time to be both a nostalgic and new fan.
