The new season of Emily in Paris, now streaming on Netflix, continues the story that is known for its fashion, romance and emotional storytelling. The show has always mixed fun adventures with personal struggles, which made Emily’s (Lily Collins, Love, Rosie) journey feel exciting. Emily in Paris Season 5 tries to continue that tone, but it does not fully succeed. While the series still has charm, this season feels weaker and less engaging than the ones before.

There is still strong affection for the show, but this season feels disappointing. Past seasons were more exciting, and Emily’s mistakes, growth and love life felt meaningful. Each episode created curiosity and emotional investment. This season, however, includes several moments that feel unnecessary and do not add much to Emily’s development.

Some storylines, especially certain relationships, appear suddenly and without strong emotional buildup. These moments feel forced and do not naturally fit into the story. They also break the sense of loyalty and support that was built in earlier seasons with friendships that were very strong. These choices weaken the emotional foundation of the show and make some characters feel inconsistent.

Another issue in the story is a familiar pattern in Emily’s romantic life. Relationships often end quickly and without deep emotional impact. This makes it seem like Emily is rarely fully emotionally involved. Because this pattern has appeared before, it makes those moments feel predictable instead of meaningful, reducing their emotional power.

However, at some point the season does succeed in showing how important friendship is. Conflict between close friends adds emotional weight and shows how valuable that bond truly is. Even when mistakes are made, the tension helps highlight the depth of that relationship and reminds viewers why it has always been one of the strongest parts of the series.

The ending is one of the weakest parts of this season. It feels unsatisfying and unexpected in a negative way. Instead of providing closure or excitement, it leaves the feeling that something is missing. The season builds toward more but does not deliver it, which makes the conclusion feel rushed and incomplete.

The acting is one of the strongest elements of the season. Collins continues to portray her character with energy, confidence and vulnerability. Emily feels believable in both her professional life and personal struggles. Another standout performance comes from Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini, Medici). The actor brings warmth and depth to the character, with a great sense of an Italian man. His happiness, anger and emotional shifts feel natural and sincere, adding authenticity to the season.

Overall, the cast delivers strong performance and clearly understands their characters. No performance feels weak. The problem of the season comes from the writing and story choices, not from the actors themselves.

This season does not meet the expectations set by earlier ones. The story feels uneven, some choices feel unnecessary and the ending is disappointing. Even so, there is still hope for another season. The show has potential to improve and return to what once made it special. A future season could correct these mistakes and deliver a stronger, more emotionally satisfying story.

Emily in Paris is now streaming on Netflix.
