Mariah The Scientist “HEARTS SOLD SEPARATELY” Track-by-Track Review

Written by Christal Garcia

Hearts Sold Separately, the fourth album from Mariah the Scientist, has become platinum in every girl’s car radio. From songs trending on TikTok to making a song for every situation a girl can encounter, Mariah has continued to allow all the ‘lover-girl’ women to feel loved and admired.

Mariah The Scientist, real name Mariah Amani Buckles, began writing music from a young age. She began uploading her music to SoundCloud during her time as a student at St. John’s University. In 2022, her first song “Spread Thin,” that gained so much recognition it ranked #15 on the ‘Billboard Hot R&B Songs.’ After this, Mariah’s music received so much well-deserved love from audiences worldwide.

On May 2, 2025, she released the single called “Burning Blue” and within a few months the song became certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), making this her third song to reach over one million streams in the country. This is one of the biggest milestones in her career. Mariah has experienced so much growth over the years—she is now headlining what is now considered her second major tour. The tour is set to premiere in January-April 2026, traveling across Europe, North America, and Canada.

The following review is a song-by-song analysis dedicated to all the ladies who love romance and love. Hope you enjoy it!

First Half:

1. Sacrifice

Starting the album strong, “Sacrifice” is dedicated to those who are beginning to fall in love with someone new. It’s also for those who are scared to love but are willing to make the effort because their new, inclined lover is worth giving their heart to. Mariah continuously repeats the following:

“I’m all out of pages to turn, so I’ll read this out loud: Can’t make it stop (can’t make it stop now). Evolving (evolving, yeah), my broken heart (from my broken heart, yes), I needed someone to help (I need), Tell me I’m falling for someone who saved me from myself.”

This embodies an emotion we may all feel when recovering from heartbreak, and a new love washes up from the shore. “Sacrifice” is a song you listen to when you are falling for someone. If you’re spending time with your girl-friends and you need a song to blast, “Sacrifice” is the top choice in the album.

2. United Nations + 1000 Ways to Die

The second song on the album, “United Nations + 1000 Ways to Die.” “United Nations” is a track where Mariah speaks about her appreciation towards God and how he needs to help this world because it lacks love. This world is full of danger and violence.

“United Nations” then blends into “1000 Ways to Die”, which speaks about how she is in love with a womanizer. She wishes he would stop this habit of his and commit to being with her. She states, “dying a thousand times, if he were in another lifetime with her,” as a way to explain how much she loves him and is willing to be with him if only he changed for the greater good. This is a relatable song if you are dealing with someone who is not willing to change their ways for your connection.

3. Eternal Flame

Need a song symbolizing being blindly in love with someone who has committed infidelity yet leads you on? Here it is! If you’re someone who feels a deep connection with their partner, regardless of the damage done between the two- this song’s for you. This person has such a personal connection with you that it feels as if they can be your ‘Eternal Flame,’ or some may say ‘soulmate’; however, it starts to feel more like a soul tie instead.

4. Is It a Crime (ft. Kali Uchis)

Is ‘It a Crime’ to fall in love? This song is the national anthem for those who are in love, yet no one tends to understand the relationship dynamic. People may be giving their input on the relationship; however, the noise becomes silent to your ears. This song became very popular on TikTok because of how many people can really relate to it. Some people are currently in a relationship but have other people wanting to see the relationship end or be broken. Mariah and Kali’s music melody blends in perfectly with their lyrical stylings. This is the perfect song for a situation in which everyone around your relationship may not want it to work out.

5. Burning Blue

Ms. Platinum! The first song in the album to become certified Platinum. “Burning Blue” has a beautiful melody and a heartfelt emotion. “Burning Blue” symbolizes the emotional intensity carried after a complicated relationship. Burning symbolizes the pain, and blue symbolizes the sadness, all experienced at once. Having a desire to be with someone you love, knowing it can contain pain and sadness, is what this song represents. “Burning Blue” is now No. 25 on the Billboard Hot 100 as of this date. Burning Blue is a catchy song for anyone to listen to. Her voice is super soft and touching in the Burning Blue track, it almost feels as if you’re feeling her emotions through the song.

Second Half:

1. All I Want + In Pursuit

In love? Feeling the need to want someone’s love constantly? Ladies and gentlemen, here is a song to constantly be on repeat with a loved one. Mariah wrote “All I Want and In Pursuit for those who cannot fake the need to love someone, songs that make” one feel seen. The chorus by itself is relatable to anyone who is happily in love with their partner, while all they crave is their love and affection. The love of her partner comforts her. The beats in this song are more up-beat, it’s a song where you can scream in the living room while cleaning and enjoy the therapeutic lyrics.

2. More

“More” is a song for those who want more than someone full of their own pride. It’s a song for people who realize that their potential partner cannot give the bare minimum, so it just leaves room for you, yourself, all alone at night. May have lost friends and lost past lovers, but this one individual, who may be “home,” is full of themselves and fails to realize the importance of being in a relationship.

3. Rainy Days

Is it possible you’d never thought there’d be rainy days? “Rainy Days” is a song dedicated to someone who has your heart yet continues to play with it, so ultimately the decision is to move forward and wait till karma comes back around. Mariah wrote “Rainy Days” to remind the audience of a simple fact: it’s okay to love someone and give them a chance, but at one point, the chances will be done, so for the greater good, moving on is your answer to happiness. The rhythm in this track can be compared to songs from the 90’s. The beat is a bit grainy, it almost feels as if this is a song you’d hear at a jazz show.

4. Like You Never

When someone is trying to come into your life after healing, but you’re hesitant to trust them, remember this song. “Like You Never” is a track for those who are hesitant to believe a potential lover. It’s the perfect song to listen to when you want things to work out with someone, yet fear them potentially leaving for another relationship. The signs not to trust them are there; however, you believe changing them can fix the situation. Personally, “Like You Never” is listened to on my way to any casual event.

5. No More Entertainers

The song symbolizes a situationship. Mariah perfectly wrote this masterpiece for those who are in a situationship, for anyone who did not expect to fall so deeply for the person and ended up dealing with someone who is stubborn, reserved, and unfaithful. “No More Entertainers” is a song for anyone who represents being in a situation where you fell in love with someone you do not know. Sacrifices have been made to be with this person, ultimately resulting in entertainment purposes only. The song ends in a beautiful violin instrumental, opening space for listeners to truly sit and reflect on their emotions.

Final Thoughts:

Overall, Mariah wrote an album that listeners can sit and relate to. This album is trending worldwide for a reason, and that’s because of the message behind every single song. “Lover-boys” and “Lover-girls,” this album just might be the perfect fit for your music streaming platform. The album as a whole has a very different vibe compared to her previous albums. This album is soothing, it’s a good playlist to listen to on your way home from a hard day at work, or even whenever you feel like listening to something relaxing yet motivating. The vibes are peaceful, each track has its own soft melody and it consists of tracks you can relate to as well.

Mariah the Scientist has always been a scientist when it comes to her craft in music. Most of her songs, if not all, are tracks that listeners can sit with and find relatable. Once a song is written by Mariah or featured, it is automatically considered a “banger,” indicating it’s automatically a good song because she is a lyrical genius.

All of the songs in the tracklist will be performed by Mariah the Scientist for her HEARTS SOLD SEPARATELY tour premiering this month, with additional add-ons from previous songs before this album. As a fellow scientist, I urge my fellow scientists to tune into Mariah’s fourth album. We all know Buckles Laboratories has a hold on masterpiece songs made for everyone who loves romance and being in love.
