Will you resist or rebel?

Daredevil Born Again’s double episode drop (2 & 3) delivers story-telling that is engaging, action-driven and emotionally-layered. The joint episodes dive into the city’s division between what is morally right or wrong. There’s a slow-burn complexity in these episodes but they tell enough of what the series is meant to be about: identity, control, and justice.

Episode 2, “Shoot the Moon,” picks up on the events of the premiere episode with Daredevil/Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox, Boardwalk Empire) and Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll, True Blood) in hiding but not quite laying low. As Wilson Fisk’s (Vincent D’onofrio, Law & Order: Criminal Intent) influence rises, crime in the city gets more “organized” yet dangerous. Daredevil finds himself in more combat against Wilson Fisk’s scheme to lure him out of hiding but also in protecting the city. All whilst Matt Murdock trying to stay committed to his life as a lawyer as Karen and him defend what is right and what is wrong in terms of seeking vengeance. Speaking of influence, the episode largely focuses on Wilson Fisk’s influence in trying to make New York City a better place, however unmasking the endangerments behind it.

Episode 3 (“The Scales & The Sword”) is a continuation from Episode 2, Matt and Karen’s investigation find themselves forming new allies bringing them closer to Fisk’s operations. The episode hints at the potential for a group of alliances being formed against Fisk and his Anti-Vigilante Task Force (AVTF). However, it also highlights the legal justice system and its role in how vigilantes will be prosecuted. For a moment the episode leads to a potential victory for the red team however with a turn of events leaving the episode off in a bang (quite literally).

Both episodes have a slower, deliberate approach. In particular, Episode 2 dives into the strategies that will take place in taking down either side. The scenes allow for tension to build rather than jumping straight into the dramatic moments and or action. This helps the audience to absorb the stakes and understand the motives behind each character especially Daredevil and Wilson Fisk.

There is also a sense of character tests with Matt and Karen struggling to balance what is morally correct and ideal as Matt and Karen agree to disagree on what should be Fisk’s ultimate fate. Fisk’s character seems to get tested as well with restraining himself from his usual violent acts towards his enemies. Although, it’s more for strategics and organization it gives us a look into a potential different side to him. The episodes focus not only on the emotions of Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk but also on other characters such as Angela Del Toro (Camila Rodriguez, Wizards Beyond Waverly Place) and her aunt Soledad Ayala (Ashley Marie Ortiz, Cheer Up Charlie) who are faced with the injustice of Fisk’s rules and the ATVF. It is shown the effects that are taking place behind what’s going on in the city. This makes the episode feel more authentic and taps into the emotional state of each character.

Despite the slow pace and focus of smaller details, the series never fails to deliver engaging and entertaining combat and action driven scenes. We as well get to look into how Daredevil’s skills and tactics have developed with the episodes providing deep cinematic scenes that almost make you feel like you’re a part of the moment and or character themselves. Truly what marvel fanatics look for.

t is also telling the show’s expansion of storylines hinting at potential new characters. This builds suspense in who could possibly be the series newest addition. And we all know Marvel is no stranger to adding in cameos and or new players to keep the audience intrigued to its story.

Overall Episodes 2 and 3 of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 have a grounded continuation for where the story is headed. Both episodes demonstrate engagement, action, and emotional character chemistry — all whilst unpacking what’s yet to come from the large conflicts at play. The episodes leave the audience with many questions about Daredevil’s full potential within the Marvel universe.

Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Episodes 2-3 are now streaming on Disney+
