Imagine being in the middle of a deadly hurricane, where the biggest threat is not the storm, but something even more dangerous: hungry sharks.

The new Netflix thriller Thrash takes place in the fictional town of Annieville, South Carolina, which is facing a category 6 hurricane. Strong winds, heavy rains and flooding already create a dangerous situation. Still, it becomes even worse when sharks begin appearing in the water, turning the disaster into a fight for survival. Dakota (Whitney Peak) is a teenager going through a difficult moment in her life after losing her mother a few months earlier. Lisa (Phoebe Dynevor) is a pregnant woman who is close to giving birth while trying to survive the chaos. And, there are three foster kids, Dee (Alyla Browne), Will (Dante Ubaldi), and Ron Olsen (Stacy Clausen). All these characters are pushed into extreme situations where every decision matters and survival becomes the only goal.

The story works well in creating constant tension. From the beginning, there is a strong feeling that something bad is about to happen, and the feeling continues throughout the film. Many scenes are full of emotions, and this is where the performances make a big difference. For example, in scenes where sharks suddenly attack from the water, the characters’ reactions feel very intense. Whitney Peak and Phoebe Dynevor do a good job showing their characters’ fear through their performances. This helps make these moments feel more believable and emotional. Instead of feeling like just action scenes, these moments become stressful and meaningful because of the way their emotions are expressed.

The film also builds tension through dangerous situations that force the characters to take risks. One strong example is when Dakota must risk her life to save Lisa during the destruction. She enters flood water filled with sharks while buildings are about to collapse around her. This moment combines fear, urgency, and courage. The acting from both Peak and Dynevor adds to the tension, as both characters show panic and fear, yet determination to survive. Scenes like this make it unclear what will happen next, which keeps the suspense strong and consistent.

Another aspect that works well is the visual realism. The flooding looks believable, the sharks feel threatening and the destruction of homes adds to the story’s intensity. Everything appears real; sometimes it feels like watching actual disaster footage rather than a fictional movie. The level of detail helps make the experience more immersive and increases the emotional impact of each scene.

However, Thrash’s ending feels confusing and somewhat incomplete. While it suggests that something more could happen in the future, it does not fully explain what the final moment means. The story builds a lot of tension, but the conclusion lacks clarity. Because of this, the ending feels unfinished. A few more scenes or a deeper explanation could have helped make the ending feel more complete and satisfying, while still leaving room for a possible sequel.

Overall, Thrash is an entertaining and intense thriller that focuses on survival, fear, and human strength during extreme conditions. While it may not be a movie that stays memorable for long, it succeeds in keeping your attention and evoking strong emotions. The combination of natural disasters and dangerous animals creates a unique and exciting story. With more detailed storytelling and a clearer ending, the film could have been even stronger, but it still stands as a solid option for anyone looking for suspense and action.

Thrash is now streaming on Netflix.
