It’s a great year for fans of Greek mythology. Right after the booming success of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey comes the cast of Percy Jackson and the Olympians to tease what’s next in Season 3.
The third season of the Disney Plus show will be adapting The Titan’s Curse, the third installment in Rick Riordan’s series. Executive producer Craig Silverstein was reluctant to confirm or deny whether this coming season is accurate to the book despite Percy Jackson actor Walker Scobell’s insistence that this season was the most accurate yet.
Considering the tasteful changes made to the Sea of Monsters, these “inaccuracies” will likely adjust the story to fit the television medium better. At the panel, Dan Shotz, another executive producer, added that Annabeth (Leah Jefferies) will have her own storyline this season while she’s separate from the main cast. In the book, we don’t see Annabeth due to Percy’s perspective, so seeing her use her wit and wisdom on her own will be a welcome change from the book.
Tamara Smart, who is returning as Thalia, expressed her excitement not only to being a series regular but also to expanding on her character who isn’t fully established and fleshing out the relationships we’ve seen glimpses of. Due to the limited point of view the books give us, any elaboration on characters who aren’t Percy will not only build upon the world but will work better in an ensemble focused medium such as television.
The trailer doesn’t show much besides Percy holding up the sky, so we’ve yet to see Olive Abercrombie and Levi Chrisopulos as Biana and Nico Di Angelo. Both Abercrombie and Chrisopulos seem excited and ready to tackle the challenge of the Di Angelo siblings. The Di Angelos are highly anticipated fan favorite characters but it seems that any glimpse of them might be held close before the release date.
The trailer teased a huge moment from the book that will very likely be at the end of the season, where Percy holds up the sky. The set from the trailer does look a little claustrophobic, making it hard to believe that Percy is truly doing such a feat. Most of Season 2 had been filmed in Vancouver, which would’ve made for a great location for Season 3 as well.
By far, the least promising thing about Season 3 is the way that the set looks. Hopefully, another trailer will come and show us not only the long-awaited Di Angelos but also better scenery.
