Since Reacher debuted in 2022, it’s consistently ranked among the most-streamed series, largely attributed to Alan Ritchson’s perfect embodiment of Lee Child’s Jack Reacher character and the gripping, high-stakes stories it adapts. The next installment will hit Prime on August 12, with its conclusion immediately followed by the spin-off Neagley debuting on September 16, allowing actress Maria Sten to lead her own story. If the trailers released at San Diego Comic-Con are any indication, both shows should continue to deliver the blend of understated humor and action-forward drama that audiences have come to expect.
Reacher Season 4 will be based on the book, Gone Tomorrow and according to the press release we will see “a chance encounter with a distraught stranger on a subway go horribly wrong, causing Reacher to become involved in a complex and deadly game that pits him against ruthless foes from the highest echelons of power.”
From the trailer, we see Reacher clashing with law enforcement, goons, and a Presidential hopeful played by Marc Blucas (Buffy the Vampire Slayer). He’ll seemingly be teamed up with NYPD Detective Tamara Green (Sydelle Noel) and a host of others who find themselves wrapped up in whatever kicks off on that subway car.
From what we know about Reacher, and what we see in the 2:18 trailer, he’s not going to let things go, no matter how many tables, walls and windows he must throw people through to set things right. The first 3 episodes are released on August 12, then weekly on Wednesdays.
Maria Sten has portrayed the only other character to feature in all three seasons of Reacher, and now Neagley finds trouble on her own. From the press release, “Frances Neagley is a private investigator in Chicago. When she learns that a beloved friend from her past has been killed in a suspicious accident, she becomes hell-bent on justice. Using everything she’s learned from Jack Reacher and her time as a member of the 110 Special Investigators, she puts herself on a dangerous path to uncover a menacing evil.”
Neagley is a tremendous character, so it makes sense that Prime would look to branch her off. While she might not look as physically imposing as Reacher, she’s just as tough, highly intelligent, and blends into a crowd much easier. Her wit can also be disarming or antagonistic depending on her intention, which we see on display in the 1:00 trailer along with plenty of cool slow-motion walking. While we see Alan Ritchson pop up at what appears to be different parts of the story, it’s more likely he bookends the series and Neagley is firmly in the driver’s seat this time, working primarily with Detective Hudson Riley (Greyston Holt) and Renee Birdwhistle played by Adeline Rudolph (Mortal Kombat II).
All 8 episodes of Negley will be available on September 16, allowing audiences to binge the new spin-off immediately following the end of Reacher.
