The “It’s Iconic Tour” came to the Freedom Mortgage Pavilion in Camden, NJ, on Sunday, September 13, and the night lived up to its name in every way. This was far from a run-of-the-mill show; it celebrated three beloved ‘90s icons: TLC, Salt-N-Pepa, and En Vogue. This lineup brought together three legendary female powerhouses whose decades of hits have inspired generations of artists and empowered women around the globe.
The crowd arrived early and listened to a DJ before the show started. It really pumped up the crowd for what was coming next. En Vogue performed first and set the tone for the show by playing two of their biggest hits to start the show off, “My Lovin’ Â (You’re Never Gonna Get It)” and “Free Your Mind,” which really fired up the crowd.
Their vocals were stellar on both songs, and their harmonies sounded as good as they did decades ago. Their cover of Aretha Franklin’s “Something He Can Feel” got an extremely loud response from the crowd, but it was “Don’t Let Go”(Love) that brought the house down with an arena sing-a-long. It was a phenomenal set!
TLC opened their set with “Ain’t 2 Proud to Beg.” Unfortunately, T-Boz missed the show due to a flare-up of her sickle cell anemia, but Chili did a nice job keeping the energy going. Her dancers were incredible and integral to the set. They also played their huge hits “Creep,” “No Scrubs” and “Waterfalls.”
Salt-N-Pepa’s energy was off the charts as they played a lot of fan favorites and their hits that included “Let’s Talk About Sex,” “Shoop,” Push It,” and “No Scrubs.” DJ Spinderella got in on the action on some of the songs in their set.
I can’t say enough about this incredible crowd. There were loud sing-alongs on a lot of the songs, and this crowd happily obliged. They danced, swayed, and screamed at times. Talk about showing a band the love!. What made this night special was the atmosphere. The venue was filled with multi-generational fans, from groups of lifelong friends to mothers sharing the experience with their daughters, all there to celebrate these trailblazers. Props to the stellar live band that played all night and the highly entertaining dancers. This was what I call a true bonafide “feel good” show.
