Dark Horse Comics and Wizards of the Coast teamed up for a panel, “The Worlds of Dungeons & Dragons and Magic: The Gathering Grow in Comics,” from 12:15-1:00 pm in the North Room on Friday, October 9, at New York Comic Con.
The panel included: Tim Wiesch, Brett Israel, Michael Conrad, Torunn Gronbekk, Alyssa Wong.
Here’s what we learned…
- Alyssa Wong (writer of 2024’s Psylocke) is teaming up with artist Vincenzo Carratu to bring a new ongoing Baldur’s Gate 3 series. This will feature serial killers and vampires; think “Hannibal meets Van Helsing.” Dropping on February 24, 2027, it will follow the game’s immediate aftermath, which Wong said made it hard to pick the “canon ending.”
- Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly are writing the new Dungeons & Dragons ongoing series coming out on November 4. We saw a colorful sneak preview of the interior art done by penciller Irbaim Roberson and colorist Dan Brown.
- Michael W. Conrad’s Magic: The Gathering: Untold Stories — Jace trade paperback will come out on January 5. Conrad said he loved the affordability of comics: “You don’t have to show up with a degree in the lore.”
- Dungeons and Dragons: Dark Sun, a graphic novel series written by Dan Abnett, drops on April 20, 2027.
- Tim Wiesch, Dark Horse’s publisher, describes the series as “brutal.” He also said creating these stories is like “DMing for the world.”
