Warning: Full Spoilers Ahead.
I had to wait two weeks to watch my favorite bitches on screen again and I am so happy they’re back. A lot went down in this episode, so much that I checked the time thinking it might have actually be a 90-minute episode. Alas, no, a regular hour filled with so much information about Dean Munsch it may make your head come off (you’ll get that in a minute). Let’s hop to it.
We start with Chanel #2’s funeral and it’s great to see Chanel hasn’t missed a beat. She spent the whole funeral badmouthing Chanel #2 in ways I feel would damage my credibility as a writer. Emma Roberts continues to be so fierce, her acid tongue damaging anyone she comes into contact with. Her quips against Chanel #2 (and especially #5) are killer and I hope someone puts together a highlight reel very soon on YouTube. Anyway, the Chanel troupe decide a Ouija Board is a good idea, making contact with the pissed off spirit of Chanel #2. This results in #2 telling her Chad is cheating on her again (big surprise) but in fact, he’s not (thank God). He’s actually caught cuddling a goat for its cheese because he’s lactose intolerant. It’s probably one of the strangest and funniest scenes Queens has offered us thus far. If Chanel can spit fire with her words, Chad has the shield to combat her and these two make for the best scenes because everything that comes out of their mouths is absolutely ridiculous.
Grace and Pete are still hot on the trail of the killer, believing Munsch is the top suspect. We find a lot about the good ol’ Dean here, finding out she was divorced from her husband because he fell in love with a student during their Beatles 101 class. Yes, that’s actually what happened. And her name is Flower. I’ll repeat that again…her name is FEATHER. These two fall in love but not before Munsch begins to stalk Feather, dress exactly like her and popping up in random places. Feather returns home to find Steven Munsch dead in an elaborate set-up even Michael Myers couldn’t think up. This leads to Munsch getting arrested for murder but when she begs Pete and Grace to visit her, she plants a seed in their mind that it’s actually Feather who is the killer. This falls a little flat for many reasons; why would Feather kill him and then set that scene up? Why would they believe a killer? It’s an absolute weak point, one I thought the writers could easily handle. Either way, Feather is arrested because of a whole bologna sandwich thing I can’t possibly go into because it’s so ridiculous. So Munsch is free because we know she’s just fodder and not actually the Red Devil. BUT WAIT! She actually did kill her ex-husband, using the Devil’s deeds as a cover-up. Again, all very confusing and feels very packed into this episode.
The rest of the main plot deals with the Chanel’s trying to murder their fearless leader because the ghost of #2 said she was the Red Devil during one of their Ouija sessions. These scenes are pretty funny as each Chanel tries to think of a crazy way to kill her, each idea more ridiculous than the last. #2 appears to Chanel in a dream, making amends and warning her about the attempted murder, saying she needs to be the leader of the group and reign supreme again.
Normally I’d say it was a shame that Officer Denise, the Red Devil and Wes were all absent from this episode but it was packed as is and didn’t need any small plots dragging it down. Gigi was also barely used but her small scene was great, talking to the killer over the phone and being her usual crazy self. I adore her. I’m also very happy Zayday didn’t have a speaking role because she’s just annoying and needs to go away.
Again, Scream Queens is very good but did fall a little flat. I was hoping with a two-week hiatus that we would have gotten an incredible episode but what was delivered was still fine, even with some small problems. The fact that everyone thinks at least one other person is the killer is sort of brilliant and slightly annoying. We know Boone has got to be one with Gigi pulling the strings but the fact that all the Chanels, Wes, Chad, Grace, Zayday, Pete and Munsch are all touted as prime suspects it leaves us no one to not suspect, if that makes sense.
