Last week on American Horror Story: Hotel, Donovan (Matt Bomer) and Iris (Kathy Bates) approached Ramona Royale (Angela Bassett) about taking revenge against The Countess (Lady Gaga). Their plan centers around Iris, which is brilliant considering that The Countess never pays any attention to her. Iris is the only person who is able to get close enough to do any damage.
Alex (Chloe Sevigny) is now a vampire and has devoted herself to the vampire children in the hotel in accordance with a deal she has made with The Countess. Alex gets to spend eternity with her son in exchange for being a governess to the children.
Liz Taylor (Denis O’Hare) was given the freedom to be himself by The Countess. She helped him accept who he was and gave him a job at the hotel.
Tonight’s episode, entitled “Room 33,” we discover that Liz Taylor and Tristan (Finn Wittrock) have been having an affair. Liz feels guilty for betraying The Countess but believes that she will be accepting of the relationship. He obviously is unaware of what happened to Ramona when she fell in love with someone else.
Jon (Wes Bentley) discovers his son and Alex sleeping in a glass coffin in the hotel swimming pool. Alex drugs him and convinces him that he is suffering from a psychotic break.
Donovan and Ramona enter the hotel with plans to murder the vampire children. When Ramona finds that the children are no longer in the swimming pool, she heads up to Room 33 to take away the one thing that means the most to The Countess.
As promised by Ryan Murphy, we finally have our first big connection between Murder House and Hotel. The Countess visits the house in order to get an abortion from Doctor Montgomery (Matt Ross). The baby is pulled out alive and proceeds to murder the nurse. This baby is who is locked away in Room 33, or it was until Ramona accidently released it.
This is technically our second connection considering that Marcy (Christine Estabrook) was the real estate agent for both the Harmons and for Will Drake (Cheyenne Jackson); however, for a more subtle connection, Hotel Cortez is based off of the Cecil Hotel, which was the last place that Elizabeth Short aka The Black Dahlia was seen. If you recall, Elizabeth Short (Mena Suvari) was a victim of Doctor Montgomery in season one.
“Room 33” is filled with enough blood and violence to ensure another complaint from that parent group who likes to bitch so much about the things that entertain the rest of us. The blood and violence in this season are what make it so disturbing and that is what makes it so impossible to look away.
I understand that Hotel isn’t for everyone, but I have really been enjoying this season. If you have fallen off of this season, this was one of the better episodes that you’ll regret missing.
American Horror Story: Hotel airs Wednesday nights at 10PM on FX
