After a brief holiday hiatus, American Horror Story: Hotel returns to bring us the much awaited identity of The Ten Commandments Killer is.
To recap on two weeks ago, John (Wes Bentley) admitted himself into a psychiatric facility to get closer to the suspect in custody for the Ten Commandment killings. It turned out that the suspect was a young girl who knew who the killer was. This killer, she told him, came from the Hotel Cortez. Unfortunately, she killed herself before she could reveal the killers identity.
The Countess (Lady Gaga) turned out to be the ex-wife of Mr. March (Evan Peters). She had fallen in love with a celebrity couple who gave her the gift of eternal life and asked her to run away with them. As punishment for trying to steal his wife, Mr. March walled the couple up in the hotel. Thanks to Drake’s (Cheyenne Jackson) desire to fix up the hotel, his workers released the hungry vampires to feast upon the hotel guests.
This week picks up with John seeking help in finding the killer. Sally (Sarah Paulson) leads John to a hidden door in his hotel room where he can find some answers. Behind this door lies a collection of souvenirs from each of the commandment killings. Basically, there was a reason that John was invited to Mr. March’s exclusive serial killer party, it just didn’t make sense until tonight.
Mr. March has spent decades trying to teach the various famous serial killers who have been guests in the hotel to take over his work punishing the wicked for their sins. Until he met John, he hadn’t met anyone with what it took. In order to nudge him in the direction of a psychotic break, March and The Countess coordinated kidnapping John’s son.
For five years, John visited the Hotel Cortez and Mr. March, each time allowing March to plant his murderous seeds in John’s head. His speeches about the inefficiency of the law and the need to take justice into his own hands gradually got to John, forcing him to murder in the name of true justice.
In addition to murdering for March, John has also been having an affair with Sally; however, upon leaving the hotel each night, John’s memory of the night is erased. He cannot remember any of his murderous or sexual escapades until the hotel decides that it wants him to. The hotel staff and guests have spent years pretending as if they were unaware as to not upset his delicate mental state but now that John has clarity, they are finally able to be treat him as he really is.
I will be completely honest, the only suspect I had for the killings was John. I knew it couldn’t have been March or Sally because they cannot leave the hotel. Liz Taylor (Denis O’Hare) isn’t the murderous type so that took her off the list. The Countess and her boyfriends didn’t kill just to kill, they did so to eat. John was close to the case, obsessed really, and being the head detective would throw everyone off his scent. So now that John is aware of who he really is, we can prepare for an all new man as he carries out his final two murders.
American Horror Story: Hotel airs Wednesday nights at 10PM on FX
