The highly anticipated Spider-Man reboot/new interpretation, Spider-man: Homecoming announced its villain at San Diego Comic Con on Saturday.
Marvel guru Kevin Feige was onstage with cast members Tom Holland, Jacob Batalan, Laura Harrier (One Life to Live), Tony Revolori (Grand Budapest Hotel), and poster Zendaya when footage from the new film was shown. This was not made available for public consumption.
It was also revealed that the villain of the film will be the iconic Spidey bad guy, The Vulture. He will be played by Oscar nominee Michael Keaton. This is the first time this villain will make the big screen. He was originally pencilled in for Spider-man 3 with Ben Kingsley reportedly in mind, but he was replaced by Venom. It was rumored Vulture was to be the main villain for the never-made Spider-man 4, with John Malkovich in mind.
The film, directed by John Watts, is scheduled for a July 2017 release.
The cast includes: Holland, Keaton, Revolori, Zendaya, Batalan, Donald Glover, Marisa Tomei, Hannibal Buress, Bokeem Woodbine, Tyne Daley, and Robert Downey, Jr.
