Welcome to Wanderland is written and created by Jackie Ball, Illustrated by Maddi Gonzalez, colored by Nimali Abeyrante, and lettered by Ed Dukeshire. Welcome to Wanderland is published by Boom Studios.
What happens when you visit your favorite theme park many times? Does the love for each small aspect of the park live on? Or, do you start to notice flaws in character acting and displays? Do you appreciate everything and hold it as nostalgic, or see it as something that wasn’t as good as it once was because some lightbulbs have burned out?
Well, for Bellamy she basically lives at a theme park with her brother. And, she’s made many complaints about lightbulbs being out and uncleaned bathrooms. Bellamy thinks it’s important for the maintenance crew to focus more on replacing broken things and cleaning than expanding the massive park. She knows everything there is to know about this theme park. She can point out every Easter egg, tell you when each ride was built, and so on. Bel is the ultimate Wanderland fan.
But, what happens when you notice a door and it calls your name? Do you go through even though it says staff only? Bel decides to walk through, and within moments she realizes she’s in Wanderland! Not the theme park, but the actual Wanderland.
It doesn’t take long for Bel to meet her favorite characters from the movies. And, it takes even less time for her to see they’re not much like their movie counterparts. The story only gets better and far more hilarious from here. I don’t want to spoil anything for you readers. But, this does make me wonder, how would I react if I met my favorite Disney princess in person and she was even cooler than I could have imagined? Likewise, what if she was just terrible?
Bel is in luck because the princess her brother portrays in the park is far more awesome than I personally was expecting. The girls get in and out of trouble quickly using Bel’s vast knowledge of the park and movies. With Riot’s knowledge of actual Wanderland they seem like a solid team. Bel and Riot work together well, and I can’t wait to read what happens in the next issue. Welcome to Wanderland really lets readers see what it’s like to let your imagination fly.
