Anime Review: Angels of Death

I have now watched the Angels of Death (Satsuriku no Tenshi) anime, read the manga (though it’s still ongoing), and played the video game. I have to say, they did a really good job sticking to the source material. Obviously to make a 16 episode anime they had to make some adjustments and add a little new content, but ultimately I felt like it was spot on and that the additions and changes made sense and were successfully executed (heh). The anime offers a bit more insight into the characters (the manga gives even more detail and is also worth reading) and I think the thing myself and many fans were looking forward to the most was some closure seeing as the game ending is open-ended. We were wrong.

NOTE: THIS WILL BE A SLIGHT SPOILER

SLIGHT SPOILER END

Despite my frustration by the above mentioned, I really enjoyed this show and would recommend it to any horror anime fans out there. If you don’t like horror, you probably won’t enjoy it. I mean, it is about serial killers, after all. The art design is really pretty but also maintains its creepiness and the characters are exact minus the whole 8-bit thing. I guess the best description I can give you is that this show made me want a thirteen-year-old and a serial killer to live happily ever after. The bond between Rachel and Zack is beautiful to watch develop, despite the incredibly messed up circumstances as to why it was forged to begin with.

OVERALL SCORE: 8 / 10

Death Angels is currently available on Crunchyroll, Hulu, and Funimation.
