Dead Heads in the Green Mountains were treated to eclectic performance Monday night, as Melvin Seals and JGB took the stage at The Rusty Nail in Stowe Vermont. The band, featured Lady Chi and Sunshine Becker (vocals), Pete Lavezolli (drums), John-Paul McLean (bass), Vermont’s own Zach Nugent (guitar, Vocals), and of course the legendary Melvin Seals on his infamous B3 Organ, paid homage to the decades of sound and energy created by the Jerry Garcia Band, much to the delight of fans both young and old.
A crowd pleasing “Roadrunner” opened up the first set, setting the mood to a rollercoaster of a show, which would blend both high energy, bone shaking grooves with more dramatic down-tempo songs, backed by powerful harmonies and soul gripping instrumentals. The band really showcased their ability to intertwine multiple vibes in the room with a cover of Jimmy Cliff’s “Johnny Too Bad”, which transformed into a powerful “The Night They Drive Old Dixie Down” (The Band), before turning it back up into a smokin’ hot Cumberland Blues to end the first set.
From the Beatles “Here comes the Sun” to a classic cover of Bob Dylan’s “Tangled Up In Blue” to wrap things up in the second set, Melvin Seals and JGB did not disappoint!
