Pop Break Live: Lennon Claypool Deirium, Particle Kid Opening for The Flaming Lips at The Stone Pony Summer Stage
Lennon Claypool Delirium knows how to keep it weird. The supergroup of Sean Lennon, and Primus’ Les Claypool has done a fantastical job of not only creating, but sustaining a wildly creative, and innovative supergroup. And frankly, there’s no better city for this band to keep it weird in (on the East Coast at least), than Asbury Park, New Jersey.
The band played tracks off their 2016 debut record Monolith of Phobos, and their 2019 release, South of Reality (with the title track kicking off the show). They also covered King Crimson’s “The Court of King Crimson,” The Beatles’ “Tomorrow Never Knows,” and “Southbound Pachyderm” by Primus (which closed the set).
LCD was part of the opening performers for The Flaming Lips’ Summer 2019 Tour, a visual dazzler in its own right. Particle Kid, fronted by Micah Nelson, brother of Lukas Nelson (of Lukas Nelson and the Promise of the Real, and a driving force behind the music of A Star is Born), and son of the iconic Willie Nelson, opened the entire set up. Particle Kid’s sound is self-described as “Folk-a-delic Forest-Funk Space-Punk Avant-Pop Psych-Rock Dope-Scapes”
