Saturday May 23 was supposed to be a night in front of a sold-out Las Vegas crowd, where All Elite Wrestling would be not only celebrating one hell of a first year, but looking forward to the infinite possibilities of its sophomore season.
Obviously, this will not be the case. However, performing in front of a sparsely populated amphitheater in Jacksonville, Florida is not deterrent for Cody Rhodes, and the rest of AEW. On a recent media call Rhodes, who fights Lance Archer to become the inaugural TNT Champion, talked about the challenges of no longer having the “instant gratification” of the rabid AEW live audiences, and how that has motivated “The American Nightmare” and the rest of the roster even more to make Double or Nothing 20202, “the best wrestling damn buffet there is!”
In this audio recap, Cody speaks to the media about the following…
- How close the current Double or Nothing is to the original pre-pandemic plan.
- The mind set of Double or Nothing 2020 as opposed to the first show ever.
- The COVID-19 regulations and testing policies AEW has put in place.
- What happens if a wrestler or staff member tests positive?
- The creative challenges AEW met during the outset of the pandemic.
- The creative challenges he and other wrestlers have met during the empty arena era.
- How the empty arena era has sharpened his and others skills
- The TNT Title and how it stands in the rankings.
- “Iron” Mike Tyson’s involvement in the show.
- Brodie Lee in the main event and how it’s a “proving ground.”
- His thoughts on The Empire Strikes Back.
- Daily’s Place as AEW’s home base.
- The “replacements” that came in to wrestle during the past month.
- AEW action figures.
- Is Matt Hardy officially part of The Elite?
- …and so much more.
