Aaron and Josh Sarnecky are talking about Disney’s Hercules for its 25th anniversary.
Hercules is an animated musical directed by Ron Clements and John Musker. It is based on the Greco-Roman myth of the same name. The film had a limited release on June 13, 1997, opening across the U.S. on June 27.
The film follows Hercules (Tate Donovan, Josh Keaton), son of Zeus (Rip Torn). After Hades (James Woods) turns him mortal, Herc trains with the satyr Phil (Danny DeVito) to become a true hero and win back his godhood. Assisting Hercules is his steed, Pegasus (Frank Welker). During his time amongst the mortals, Hercules falls in love with Meg (Susan Egan), who’s secretly working for Hades.
The film was generally well-received, despite some mixed reactions. While a box office success, it grossed below projections. The film received an Oscar nomination for Best Song for “Go the Distance.”
Aaron and Josh go over the movie’s plot, characters, animation, and songs. They also talk about the live-action remake in the works.
