Only Murders in the Building Episode 7 is a puzzling episode one. Mabel (Selena Gomez, Hotel Transylvania) is recovering after stabbing someone on the subway and reinforcing her Bloody Mabel nickname. It leads her to question her own past and begs the question: did Mabel really stab Bunny and forget?

As we clean up the puzzle pieces along with Mabel, we are not alone. Theo (James Caverly, Chicago Med) helped Mabel after he witnessed the stabbing on the subway and now she’s at his place. At first, it kind of feels a bit creepy, which Theo acknowledges, but he wants to help her find the matchbook (a.k.a. their only solid evidence against the killer) that the person covered in glitter stole. Theo also found something important – a Coney Island security badge the killer dropped.

So, the duo goes on a trip! Meanwhile, Martin Short’s Oliver and Steve Martin’s Charles are worried sick about Mabel. But instead of getting answers about her, they’re confronted with Detective Williams (Da’Vine Joy Randolph, The Lost City) and her new baby. At first, the pair kind of makes it obvious that they have the murder weapon in Oliver’s apartment, but through this little apartment visit, Williams is able to warm up to the pair and takes the murder weapon in as evidence, saying she won’t reveal where she got it from. After all, it was used to frame them.

Meanwhile, Mabel and Theo are hot on Glitter Guy’s trail. She and Theo first spend a few nice moments together in Coney Island, building a semi-friendship as Mabel realizes she also doesn’t remember the night of Bunny’s murder, much like Theo doesn’t remember the night Zoe died. She’s worried she is actually responsible, and she just can’t recall the memory. It seems she can relate to Theo in ways that she never saw before, and their interactions are unique and fun in this episode.

We even get a peek into Mabel’s past. Her father (Mark Consuelos, Riverdale) used to teach her a lot about mysteries and puzzles, but she could never figure out the biggest secret kept from her as a kid: her father was sick and passed away when she was only a child. Still, she learned a lot from him, even if he kept this fact away from her.

He used to do puzzles with her as a child with all the pieces flipped over, but Mabel decides it’s time she flipped them over in her mind and finds out the real truth. She spots Glitter Guy in Coney Island and grabs the bag, running away to get Theo and get out of Coney Island. It’s a bit frustrating we can’t see who Glitter Guy is, but it’ll be revealed in time.

Upon “flipping over the pieces,” Mabel realizes she did not kill Bunny and she saw the killer escaping the night of Bunny’s death. She tells Theo, who’s avoiding his dad, that he shouldn’t run from his problems, and that she was wrong about Theo.

So, she reunites with Charles and Oliver in a heartwarming scene. Seeing the trio together never gets old! It’s a great little reunion, but at the same time, Mabel realizes the matchbook is not in the killer’s bag. Yup, he still has it. But there’s a photo in there instead of Charles’ daughter Lucy. Oh no. Could this mean she’s his next target? And why?

At the very end of Only Murders in the Building Episode 7, just when Charles is calling Lucy, the power goes out. Not just in the diner where the trio meets up, but in all of New York City. It’s a blackout! The next episode is bound to have more shrouded secrets and exciting reveals, especially now that everyone in NYC is truly in the dark.

Only Murders in the Building Episode 7 is now streaming on Hulu.
