Gloria Trevi Brings Her ‘Isla Divina Tour’ to The Fillmore in Philly

Pop Break Live: Gloria Trevi ‘Isla Divina Tour’ at The Fillmore Philadelphia on Thursday November 10, 2022

Mexican music icon Gloria Trevi played Philadelphia’s Fillmore on 11/10. Trevi is touring in support of her newest album, Isla Divina, which was released in April. Dubbed as the Mexican Madonna by press, she has been performing since 1985 and has sold over 25 million albums globally. There is no doubt this will be a crowd pleasing setlist that includes many fan favorites from over the last three decades.

The show started off with a three-minute timer via a LED screen and got the crowd excited for her arrival on stage. During the wait, images of war, disease, famine and other troubling images were projected on the screen. When it hit zero, Trevi appeared in the middle of a group of dancers that had huddled together on the stage floor. She rose up and looked stunning wearing full sized angel wings, gold and silver thigh-high boots and a red heart brooch on her chest that appeared to be bleeding. This was an interesting theme during the night and it was reflected in the many stage set changes and in the countless costume changes. Trevi would take the audience on a wild journey from Hell to Heaven and in between. She said this show was about letting go of all the craziness of the last few years that had to do with the pandemic, politics, the environment and injustice.

It was a very diverse crowd. Trevi is 54 so it seemed to be a family affair for some in the audience. I saw many mothers with their children, who are now fans, and families waving flags representing Mexico and The Dominican Republic. Also the LGBQT were out in force as Trevi has been a staunch defender in her native country and around the world. Her song “Todos Me Miran” became a popular anthem for them. Trevi kicked off the night with “Que Hago Aqui’, the title track from her debut album which was released in 1989.

Trevi performed for over two hours. There were no lulls during this set, not even a hint of one. She was accompanied by a four-piece band and a few backup singers. Her group of dancers really impressed. They were dripping with charisma and it was obvious to see how much fun they were having. You couldn’t help but smile at some of their antics.

The setlist included some of her biggest hits that included ‘Dr.Psiquiatra’, ‘Manana’ and some newer songs ‘Sube’,’ El Se Equivoco’ and ‘Grande’, all off her latest album. One of the highlights of the night was Trevi’s version of the Lauren Branigan song “Gloria”. This was one of the most entertaining shows I have ever seen. I was a true Tour De Force and it gets my vote for the the best feel good show of 2022
