On March 29 after Dynamite, All Elite Wrestling will debut its latest series — AEW All Access at 10 p.m. EST. The brand new series takes you behind the scenes of AEW and into the personal lives of the wrestlers.
Ahead of the debut episode next week, we had the opportunity to talk to two of the main stars of the series and two of AEW’s most popular wrestlers — Adam Cole and Dr. Britt D.M.D. Britt and Adam talked to us about the involvement with the show, what we can expect from this behind-the-scenes series, Adam’s return to the ring after serious injury and much more.
We’ve seen a lot of shows that have pulled back the curtain and taken us behind the scenes — so what can we expect from All Access?
Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D: It’s a lot of everything really, it is all access. You are backstage with us at work, at the hotel, and even at home. You also get to see everything that goes into making AEW Dynamite and Rampage every week. It goes into us being there performing and all of the stuff we have to go through. Of course, we also had a pretty scary injury that we had to work through. You are going to see everyone’s stories of not only being an AEW Wrestler but being a human in wrestling because I think it humanizes all of us.
Adam Cole: For me, it’s the most behind-the-curtain I have ever gotten in so many different aspects of my life. Between the severity of the injury, family members, friends, and things like that…
Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D: We are pretty private and then to have the cameras just hone in on something scary and was important it was kinda like 0-60 here it is.
Now in that aspect was it annoying having the cameras following you around the whole time?
Adam Cole: For me, no. I think this especially because I touched on this a little bit when I came back to The Forum. The fans had no idea exactly what was going on with me, so I kept telling myself it’s kind of cool in a sense to have all of this document so the audience has a chance to see the entire recovery process and everything that I have gone through. So no, it didn’t bother me.
Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D: You kind of know what you are signing up for. If you weren’t willing to do everything that goes into making a show like this, then why say yes to this, to begin with? It’s stressful though because it’s another thing to be aware of on top of the stress that goes into doing live TV every week. Stuff always changing, things are popping up, and people aren’t there. It was a lot, but I wouldn’t change anything.
Is there any moment that you don’t want to make the final cut on the show?
Adam Cole: For me, I don’t think so.
Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D: I don’t think so either, but to be perfectly fair we filmed hundreds of hours of content. One way or another I don’t remember everything and I am sure there are times when I didn’t even notice that they were filming. I don’t think there’s anything.
Adam Cole: From what I remember, as Britt said is not all of it I felt really good about what we filmed.
We have seen wrestling-related shows like All Access before such as Rhodes to the Top, what makes this show different?
Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D: When you look at the main cast that is featured; you have me and Adam and everything that we have gone through, especially him. Me kind of juggling that on the side but also trying to give him his privacy when everyone asks me what’s going on and then everything going on in the women’s division and me being a dentist. Then you have the Young Bucks, being who they are EVPS, wrestlers, tag-team brothers. Then Sammy and Tay with their relationship and everything that they are going through in wrestling. It is such a different clash of worlds, but I think it is a really good representation of professional wrestling to wrestlers and everything that goes into it. This is not a walk in the park. There are a lot of risks and a lot of pain and suffering. There is a lot of joy and we do love what we do too.
Adam Cole: AEW is still such a young company and there are so many people involved in this show that haven’t had the chance to go that far in their private lives. So I think in that sense it is going to feel fresh and interesting and different just because a lot of us haven’t had this chance before, so it’s going to be cool.
The one thing that was heavily shown in the trailer was some AEW backstage rumors and speculation such as the heat between you (Britt) and Thunder, as well as the All Out backstage brawl. Do you think that this show is going to give clarity to fans that were wondering what happened in those instances?
Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D: We haven’t seen the final cut yet so I don’t know what is going to be shown [and] what isn’t going to be shown. I do think it is a realistic depiction of how everyone feels personally and what everyone has gone through. We are all human beings and like I said if anything, this humanizes us. I hope more so than any of the drama or he said/she said or anybody’s side is that’s what people take from this. They are humans, they are people who go through a lot of s*** every week.
Adam Cole: Again going off of what Britt just said, I have no idea what is going to make the final cut, but I am very confident given how much stuff was shot that the fans and the audience watching this show are going to either feel that they learned something from watching the show or they are going to be entertained from watching it too. Not exactly sure what is going to be in there or not, but I am pretty darn confident people are going to like it.
Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D: I can personally say I put it all out there. I gave my opinion on everything and everyone and I stand by that. If you agree with it — cool. If you don’t that’s cool too, but at least I can say how I feel, and if anything this is a platform to get your words out there instead of things getting twisted and turned on social media. That is one of the worst parts about this business is when the stuff you say gets misconstrued or things you never said get put out there. I think it’s a little bit of freedom in that sense.
Adam, the show documents your comeback to the ring, how emotional will that be for you to see? Britt, how emotional was it for you?
Adam Cole: The whole idea of March 29th, not only being the debut of All Access and exposing some of the most private and intimate times of my career, but the fact that I am going to be able to get back into the ring, it is going to be an emotional day. Again there was a long period that Britt will tell you this when there was a real scare and a real fear that I was done and that I wasn’t going to be able to wrestle again. I hate even thinking about being an option, but it was and it was very real and some of that is covered in the show….
Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D: It was kept so private like nobody knew anything. Even at work some of his closest friends would ask me, how’s he doing and how is he feeling it wasn’t my story to tell, so I had to navigate those waters of letting him tell his own story, but also communicating with people how he was doing it was hard.
Adam Cole: As far as March 29th goes, I could not be more elated and excited to get back into the ring. It’s my dream, this is all I have ever wanted to do since I was nine and I am very proud of the career that I have had, but in a lot of ways I haven’t even hit my prime yet in my opinion. I feel as if I have 10-15 more years in the ring. I am very thankful that I have been given this second chance in a lot of different ways. March 29th I am going to be a wreck.
Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D: Me too, I am going to be a nervous wreck too.
Now you even talk about how you feel like you haven’t hit your prime yet, besides winning the AEW World Heavyweight Championship, what other goals do you have in this second run of yours?
Adam Cole: Objectively, when I look at the roster because I do believe so many men and women are firing on all cylinders right now the roster is so stacked. When I think about the time that I spent in AEW, which actually before this injury happened, not that much time has gone by. There is so much talent and so many people that I want to step in the ring with. You look at a lot of the young talent that AEW has. I would like to wrestle guys like Jungle Boy again, Darby Allin, Sammy Guevara, and the list goes on and on of people that I want to step into the ring with. So to answer your question besides becoming AEW World Heavyweight Champion I just want to wrestle some of the best pro wrestlers on the planet and we have them here in AEW.
Britt, within the trailer for the show they show that they filmed you at your dental office, although this isn’t the first time this has happened, was that still weird for you?
Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D: So actually because of HIPAA Laws and I don’t wanna get sued and I don’t want anyone in the company to get sued. We didn’t do a lot for me with patient stuff. You’ll see there is still a lot of me being a dentist or me leaving for the dental office. It is very well represented that I have a lot going on and two of those things are being a professional wrestler and being a dentist. It will be a very real thing for fans to even see me in scrubs like wow she is a dentist. Some people say it but I don’t think they understand it like I do when I go to a dental office and I come back from work and wrestle. I don’t think they process it. For some reason when they see me in scrubs, it all clicks even on the roster. I remember one of the Jacksonville shows during the pandemic I drove from work to where we were going to film Dynamite and Eddie Kingston saw me in scrubs and said, “Holy s*** You are a dentist.” I’m like Eddie. You have known me for years. What do you mean? There is something about the scrubs, I don’t know if it gets people.
When we first worked together in 2018 you told me the next time I worked with you, you would be a big star. We have seen you main event, win gold, and make history. Do you feel as if you reached the level of success of you becoming a huge star?
Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D: I think I am well on my way. So I am going to look at you and say the next time we work together I am going to be a huge star I promise you that. I am going to keep going and keep climbing. I think that I have done a lot of things in professional wrestling that I am very proud of and things that I didn’t even know I was capable of, but that’s the territory of finding new limits that you didn’t even know you had yet, you want more. That’s where I am right now, I want to be better than I ever thought I’d be. Am I there quite yet, no but I think that I know now that I have all the tools to get there.
