Boy did Dynamite deliver some completely unexpected action. We can be passionate about professional wrestling, maybe even a little too passionate. The events of a certain street fight Midway through the show definitely divided fans everywhere
“Speedball” Mike Bailey and Ricochet defeated Shibata and Mark Davis
Boy did I love this match. So enjoyable to watch, I know the high risk and excessive flying spots are not for everyone, but something about a four-way match made it fun. Everyone had some unique spots, between wrestling holes and a few comedy bits throughout the match. while the High Flyers of course would shock the crowd, my MVP of the match goes to Mark Davis. The dude is a brawler and is more than just a stereotypical big man. I feel as though his pile drivers are some of the most devastating I’ve seen to date. At one point I really thought it would have been a good idea to have him win the match and face Kenny Omega at the pay-per-view. It would have been an interesting as it would have been a Clash of wrestling abilities. However, going with the triple threat option will certainly raise some eyebrows and give us the expectation of some insane fast paced wrestling come Dynasty.
Mercedes Mone defeated Billie Starkz
Absolutely excellent match. I’m sold more and more on Mercedes as a wrestler, her promos I don’t really have a strong opinion on, but her wrestling as of late has proven that she has become quite the asset for AEW. While the outcome was obvious, the backstage segment with Renee Paquette interviewing the CEO, opted to berate the individual who trained Starkz. Uh oh. We know where this is going and the CEO is gonna pay.
Jon Moxley retains the AEW World Championship against Cope in a Street Fight
SPIKE reared his ugly frame, and was immediately put to use. This was the match we should have had at the last pay-per-view. Mox has abandoned his wrestling style and opted for the neanderthal style of brawling. Copeland could have had a wrestling match, however it seems that these two could not do more than an all-out brawl.
Let’s talk about Spike. Let’s talk about that horrific suplex onto Spike. It was shocking, horrific, absolutely mind shattering. This is not a spot you would normally see on television, so busting this out was certainly a surprise. This will be talked about for the next few weeks, until wrestling Twitter moves on to something else they don’t like about AEW.
Inevitably the rest of the Death Riders came to interfere. FTR attempted a save but it wasn’t enough for Cope to overcome the odds. After the dust settled, Cope, sitting on the mat extended his hand to Dax, but instead of helping, he turns and leaves Cope while Cash and Dax in stunned disbelief. We have seen for the past few weeks Dax becoming increasingly agitated and disrespectful following his matches. If a heel turn is coming, I truly hope this does not split up another great tag team.
Backstage, MJF will have an answer for MVP next week about joining the Hurt Syndicate.
Will Ospreay defeated AR Fox
The outcome was never in question. However, the path to the outcome was another fun contest. I really wish they would feature AR Fox more often. He may not have the star power one would hope, but his wrestling agility is indisputable. He can move just as fast and just as spontaneous as Ospreay. Fun matches like this are necessary. Sometimes we just need something enjoyable to sit back and relax.
Renee Paquette interviews “Hangman” Adam Page backstage. The Angry Millennial Cowboy throws his hat into the Owen Hart Memorial tournament, insisting he will be the next one to challenge for the world championship. He also warns that he keeps his promises, specifically to prevent Swerve Strickland from becoming AEW champion.
Megan Bayne defeated Kris Statlander with “Timeless” Toni Storm on commentary
I don’t know which one was better, the match or Storm on commentary. The main event of this week’s Dynamite was absolutely fantastic. Probably one of the best women’s matches on television. The commentary from Toni Storm amplified how great this match was. Statlander is a workhorse of the women’s division, despite the loss always looks like a strong winner in my opinion. Bayne is towering and opposing, quite the Menace for the women’s division. her inevitable confrontation with Tony storm, likely to take place at the dynasty pay-per-view will be epic. I do wonder if we’re going to see a new champion this soon. Storm just reclaimed the title, and Bayne is still relatively new to the company. I’m not sure it’s in either best interest for a title change.
Having a women’s match main event of the show was absolutely the right call. I have to believe that the second match between Mox and Copeland was an apology that it was a let down at the pay-per-view and should have been a street fight to begin with. perhaps one could assume that having the women’s match main event tonight was also an apology for a women’s match not main eventing the Revolution pay-per-view. from a production standpoint, it would have been brilliant to have the Hollywood font displaying the words “The End” close out Revolution.
A fun episode of Dynamite. Story lines continued, and then we had some fun matches without the burden of keeping track of a story arc.
I have a new Theory. for those in the know, my favorite wrestler will hopefully be back in the late spring or early summer. perhaps this wrestler will not take the title from Mox, but be the catalyst for him to lose it to Swerve.
Eddie Kingston returns, distracts Mox. Mox loses the championship. In the following months, Kingston and Mox have a war of words leading up to his inevitable return to the ring where he will completely annihilate Mox and end the Death Riders angle once and for all.
