Matisyahu Reclaims His Faith and His Fire on Ancient Child

Singer-songwriter Matisyahu stopped in at The Brooklyn Bowl in Philadelphia on October 14th. He is currently on tour in support of his latest studio album, Ancient Child,  which was released on October 3rd. The album is a blend of reggae, hip-hop, soul and rock.

Matisyahu and his stellar band opened the show with the song “Process.” The set was heavy on his new songs but the audience was ready as they already knew the words and sang along on a lot of them. Some newer songs that really stood out were “Rockets,” “Son Come Up”, “Rockin Tempos” and “Ritual.”

It was only a few songs into the set and the place was already rockin’. His infectious energy spread to the audience. The atmosphere in the venue had an electric vibe like you’d feel at a big jam band show. The audience was totally engaged from start to finish. The mood was a mix of chill vibes, hands in the air and dancing. The stage lighting had ever changing colors during the set and there were cool visuals projected on a screen. The crowd screamed when they recognized the opening chords to his older songs like “Sunshine” and “King without a Crown.”

This was such a great crowd. His shows traditionally foster a sense of camaraderie and unity and that is exactly how it felt in there. The set was uplifting and inspirational at times. Matisyahu closed his set with one of his most beloved songs, “One Day.” There is nothing better than a true feel good show!
