Review: Space Ghost Season 2 Issue #4 (Dynamite Comics)

Part one of two! Space Ghost Season 2 Issue #4 finds the warring worlds of Liquo and Glasstor have been quarreling for generations, yet the current rulers only know the origin of their fight have been passed from previous rulers. As an early panel states: “From the moment our worlds first met, we have always been at war.” King Remora of the Space Sharks and Emperor Glasstor of the Glasstor Empire reflect on long, tiring years.

However, it seems the two sides, thanks to help from Space Ghost and his companions, have finally put an end to years of endless and fruitless aggression. The heroes silently patrol a peace summit between the two worlds to reinforce their truce and treaty to co-exist peacefully and with no further conflict.

We’ve heard this one before, haven’t we? What could possibly go wrong?

Like the draw of an old school Sunday morning cartoon, a sudden blast disrupts the event, and immediately pits the two words at each other once again. Jace sees the sniper shot, but fails to apprehend the culprit. But as Jace gets to the scene, police arrive to find him near the cannon, thus assuming he is the one who made the assassination attempt. Welp, Jace is now in custody and both King Remora and Emperor Glasstor leave, with rage and retribution in their hearts. Yet neither have the proof of who was trying to assassinate whom.

The issue becomes a bigger mystery. As both sides seem to easily resume their conflict, escalating tremendously since their last skirmish, it seems a little too convenient that an errant shot would suddenly cause both sides to break out into war once more, without the slightest notion to capture the suspect. Each believe the other to be the saboteur, and this is enough.

It is a bit unsettling dear readers, to see two worlds so quickly agree to go back to war. It is almost as though it is all they know, and all the care to know. Space Ghost and Jan must find a way to both stop the war before both worlds are obliterated and somehow clear Jace’s name. The issue concludes with Space Ghost, literally getting in the way of a world-ending attack, with disastrous consequences!

Space Ghost Season 2 Issue #4 is now available at your local comic book store.
