There is no better place to find new music than the Solid Sound Festival. Every other year, Wilco gathers its favorite artists at the beautiful Mass MoCA to celebrate music, comedy, and art. On June 26-28, Wilco returns to Mass MoCA in North Adams, MA to take part in the ideal Rock n’ Roll vacation.
For Solid Sound’s 9th installment, Wilco recruited notable names from every decade they’ve been around. The lineup is filled with nostalgia from The Breeders and Gang of Four, while also featuring acts that topped year-end lists in 2025, such as Ryan David & the Roadhouse Band. Gang of Four, who wrapped up their farewell tour in 2025, is one of the most exciting names on the bill and is sure to bring some entertainment!
The Breeders and Ryan Davis are simply the tip of the iceberg. Alt legends Billy Bragg and Rich(ard) Dawson will bring their brilliant lyrics and ballads to Massachusetts as well. Recent phenom Sharp Pins is a must-see act; his recent album, Balloon Balloon Balloon, is one of 2025’s best. And when you’re in the mood to get a groove on, L’Rain, the multi-instrumentalist experimentalist, will undoubtedly bring the funk.
The list of outstanding artists goes on, but Solid Sound would not be what it is without multiple sets from Wilco. As a tradition, Wilco plays two headline sets, the first of which is a “special set.” In years past, they have performed deep cuts, karaoke, and played a new album front to back; however, this year may be the best surprise yet. On Friday, June 26, Wilco will be joined by Billy Bragg for a one-of-a-kind performance of tracks from the iconic Mermaid Avenue albums.
In 1998, Wilco connected with Billy Bragg to record previously unheard lyrics by Woody Guthrie, and nearly 30 years later, they’re bringing the songs to the stage. The set will pull from both Volumes 1 and 2 of the Mermaid Avenue collection. Wilco lead singer, Jeff Tweedy, had this to say about the set, “The world needs all the Woody Guthrie it can get.”
Tweedy, accompanied by his band, featuring his two sons, has the honor of closing the festival on Sunday afternoon. Labeled as “Jeff Tweedy & Friends,” there is no way of knowing who might come on stage. In 2022, Talking Heads’ David Byrne joined Tweedy to sing “California Stars.”
Outside of the music, what makes Solid Sound so special is that there is always something to do. This year, comedian John Hodgman has invited Jo Firestone, Demi Adejuyigbe, and Jordan Klepper to the stage to share their hilarious acts. If you need a break from music and laughs, there is plenty of time to check out the Mass MoCA museum, which often features special exhibits curated for the festival.
Solid Sound is more than a festival; it is the perfect summer getaway for all ages. Over the weekend of June 26, let go of the troubles of the world, and immerse yourself in the world of Wilco.
