If you go on any form of social media, and in your 40s, you’ve likely been hit ads for lowering your cortisol levels, resetting your vagus nerve, releasing the stress in your fascia, and repositioning your mental health using program X, Y, or Z. (Or maybe that’s just mine.)
While, these all could be the latest social media snake oil, there’s one thing most of us – especially those reading a review about a gardening show hosted by Zach Galifianakis – can agree on is that the world in the year of our Lord 2026 is wildly stressful. This is not a revelation, it’s more of an acknowledgement that post-collegiate adult life, no matter the generation you’re in is extremely tough. Sometimes you need a slice of sweet relief to alleviate the non-stop anxiety that surrounds us.
That’s why This is a Gardening Show is the perfect show for right now.
With the world literally and figuratively on fire, comedian and actor Zach Galifianakis takes us into his world of gardening. What sounds like a superfluous concept, is actually quite practical, informative, and as you would correctly surmise – hilarious.
The Between Two Ferns host tackles a gardening subject every episode and engages with experts to teach both himself and the audience about corn, tomatoes, apples, and foraging. Throughout the episode he spikes in segments with grade school kids, asking them about the episode’s topic and then sidetracking into silliness that flies over the kids’ heads or comes straight from their mouths.
With its psychedelic interstitials and an indie rock soundtrack straight out of 2009 Williamsburg, Brooklyn This is a Gardening Show has the vibe of a PBS series that’s really enjoying its course of micro-dosing. It’s wonderfully relaxing to watch Zach crack jokes, and explore his own curiosity. It makes zero sense that this should work, but it does on every single cellular level, and my God is this show so necessary for our psyches right now (again, maybe just mine, 2026 has been rough).
This is a Gardening Show is a quick watch that allows you to check everything at the door, and just completely unwind with the beauty of nature, and the sublime comedy of Zach Galifianakis.
