Socially Distanced: ‘Obsession’ and ‘Backrooms’ Bash the Box Office + ‘Spider-Noir’ Season 1 Reactions

The Socially Distanced Podcast was created by two pop culture-obsessed dads during COVID who decided to take their Facebook messenger conversations and turn them into a podcast. In 2022 they brought their friend, a pop culture-obsessed mom to the show, and things got even better!

Join hosts Amanda Rivas and Bill Bodkin as they discuss everything in the world movies, music, sports, television and pop culture — everything keeping them sane in this time of socially distancing. This podcast is powered by ThePopBreak.com.

Socially Distanced is live in both black & white true hue color to discuss Prime Video’s new Marvel series, Spider-Noir starring Nicolas Cage.

Pop Break’s Editor-in-Chief Bill Bodkin is in the host seat and is joined as always by “The Human Star Wars Encyclopedia” Amanda Rivas, and Tanner Stein of WRSU and Pop Break’s Summer Writing Program. Tanner made his debut on the site in late May, and reviewed the series for the site.

In the episode they discuss Nicolas Cage as Ben Reilly aka The Spider, and if he should’ve been allowed to go bigger and weirder (as suggested by Jason Manntzoukas on The House of R Podcast). They talk about the merits of True Hue vs. Black & White and the decisions to not make this a weekly episodic series. Amanda, Bill and Tanner dive deep into the performances from Lamorne Morris, Li Jun Li and Rachel Rodriguez plus they ponder the future of the series and if it continues what Spider-Man villains they’d love to see added to the second season.

In the pre-game segment they discuss the success of Obsession and Backrooms at the office. They ponder whether these high grossing, low budget films will change the IP and seuqel/spin-off obsessed wave of films being produced in Hollywood as well as if YouTube is the next fertile crescent for filmmakers.
