This is Podelay, a podcast dedicated to alternative rock pioneer Beck Hansen! After completing their Pod of Doom series, Randy Allain (Media/Lit) and Justin Mancini (TheCineMaverick.com) are back to take on a whole new genre. Our resident music podcasters are joined by Kris Ingersoll of Batman by the Numbers and the Media/Lit podcast, and this time, Randy steps into the host chair so that Justin can discover something new.
In the thirteenth episode, Kris and Randy discuss Beck’s 2017 pop album, Colors. They discuss whether or not producing a pop record makes an artist a sell out, and debate which songs offer the strongest evidence of Beck’s signature style. Additionally, the hosts unpack some of the diverse influences on the album, from Paul McCartney to Pharrell Williams, and even The Police! This may be the least “Beck” Beck album, but it might also be the album most likely to draw a new audience.
