Socially Distanced: Life and Legacy of Sir Patrick Stewart + Reviewing Godzilla Minus One (2023)

The Socially Distanced Podcast was created by two pop culture-obsessed dads during COVID who decided to take their Facebook messenger conversations and turn them into a podcast. In 2022 they brought their friend, a pop culture-obsessed mom to the show, and things got even better!

It’s Spooky Szn, and Socially Distanced proudly presents its annual Halloween Episode. This All Hallows’ Week, we’re discussing the 25th Anniversary of the all-time cult classic, Donnie Darko.

Go-Go-GODZILLA! With the release of Godzilla Minus Zero in theaters this weekend, the gang from Socially Distanced is talking all about the King of Monsters in this episode.

Pop Break’s Editor-in-Chief Bill Bodkin and “The Human Star Wars Encyclopedia” Amandas Rivas are joined by Trey Grunn (HGIII Cosplay) of the ConCulture Podcast to discuss the 2023 blockbuster, Godzilla Minus One. In the discussion they talk about their history with Godzilla, what makes this kaiju such a staple of international pop culture, and how this movie channeled so much of the original Godzilla film and was just a great, must-watch film. Trey, Amanda and Bill also predict what’ll happen in the Minus Zero and their hopes and fears for the film.

The trio also discuss how the focus of the human element of the story works so much better here than the 2014 American version with Aaron Taylor Johnson and Bryan Cranston which hid the monsters for most of the film. They discuss the effects, the themes of trauma and post World War II Japan, and the incredible action. They also dissect the 90s Godzilla film starring Matthew Broderick and how it was everywhere in pop culture.

In the pre-game segment they remember their favorite performances from the late Sir Patrick Stewart and how he brought such gravitas to IP content like X-Men and Star Trek. They also go off the trails with a debate on when Christmas season should start, Thanksgiving being an underrated holiday, stuff, Tyler McCarthy’s Home Alone theory, and so much more.
