Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Rent. I’ve been hearing nothing but negative comments about Jack Reacher, and that’s mostly been from my dad. He’s a big fan of the novels and according to him lead actor Tom Cruise is not the physical specimen that Mr. Reacher is in the book. The homicide investigator is a towering 6’5″ and 250 pounds on the written page but it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that Cruise does not meet those measurements. Regardless, despite the fact that the actor playing the titular role has had a bit of crazy history in past years does not take away from him at all; he still can entertain the hell out of audiences and he looks like he’s having a blast here. Definitley a rental for sure, as I’m sure poppa Fowler may even have a slight interest in seeing the adaptation. We’ll see. –LJF

Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Rent. Jack Reacher looks like it’ll be a solid, nitro-charged action flick. However, nothing’s really grabbing me by the throat, compelling me to catch this in el teatro. It seems like we’re going to get the paint-by-numbers Tom Cruise action flick — lots of running, a couple of completely insane stunts, Cruise screaming and Cruise flashing his patented smart alecky smile. Nothing about Jack Reacher stands out for me, especially in a time when a lot of really, compelling Oscar bait is coming out. So, it’ll be a rental for me and a few month wait until the TC movie I’m really stoked for, Oblivion, hits theaters. –BB
