Pop-Ed: The Most Horrifying TV Christmas Episodes

christmastvheader

Christmas time doesn’t mean that you have to watch cheesy Hallmark movies or Claymation cartoons. In fact, some of us like to keep the Halloween horror spirit going all year long.

You’re in luck! If you have read my 12 Slays of Christmas, you now have a dozen blood filled holiday horror films to tide you over. If, for whatever reason, that isn’t enough, I have put together a list of my personal favorite Christmas themed horror television show episodes for your enjoyment.

Tales from the Crypt, “And All Through the House”-Leslie (Mary Ellen Trainor) is having an affair. In order to end her marriage, she murders her husband (Marshall Bell) on Christmas Eve and takes him outside to dispose of the body. Meanwhile, an escaped lunatic (Larry Drake) sporting a Santa suit has attacked and killed four women already and is determined to make Leslie an even five.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer, “Amends” – Angel (David Boreanaz) is haunted by his dark and murderous past when he is visited by The First Evil in the form of Jenny Calendar (Robia LaMorte) whom he killed just a season before when he was soulless. Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar) must find a way to destroy the first before it convinces Angel to destroy himself.

The X-Files, “How the Ghosts Stole Christmas” – Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson) investigate a haunted house on Christmas Eve where a pair of lovers killed one another over 80 years before. This is no ordinary haunting as these ghosts are bent on making Mulder and Scully follow in their footsteps.

The Twilight Zone, “Night of the Meek” – A drunken department store Santa, saddened by the lack of a real Santa for the poor kids, fulfils his dream when he comes upon a magic present sack that actually distributes presents.

American Horror Story, “Unholy Night” – Christmas comes to Briarcliff when Sister Mary Eunice (Lily Rabe) lets Christmas time serial killer Leigh Emerson (Ian McShane) don a Santa suit and celebrate amongst the other inmates. Sister Mary Eunice’s intentions are far from being in the Christmas spirit.
