On this episode of Community, viewers said goodbye to two of Greendale’s study group members. Yes, spoiler alert: Pierce (Chevy Chase) and Troy (Donald Glover) will no longer be on the show. It’s going to be weird not seeing them (even Pierce who hasn’t been on much to begin with) but a small part of me thinks I will be able to continue watching without them. In fact, I’m kind of hoping they bring two brand new characters in, and some kind of hilarious Study Group initiation ensues. Since I haven’t heard any chance of that happening from some Internet rumor, I’m willing to bet things are just going to proceed as normal.
But who knows. I honestly don’t know. There could be a lot of surprises in store. Remember: This season Harmon is back, and aside from last week’s episode, the season has been pretty funny so far. I don’t mean to state what has already been overstated, but I keep having to remind myself that I’m not watching Season 4 anymore.
Anyway, here’s a deeper look at some of the events at this episode and what did and did not work:
Pierce May Be Gone But He Will Be A Part Of the Study Group Forever
I don’t think there’s another way Harmon could have pulled off Pierce’s will. As Jeff said, it’s so totally Pierce to have the Study Group come together and have them admit to each other all of their crazy secrets. I was surprised that there were less insults coming from the lawyer in Pierce’s voice and I’m even more surprised he gave ALL of his money to Troy. But we all knew it was coming once Donald Glover announced he was leaving the show. I have to admit it to Harmon though, Glover’s cast off was really well done. I feel like it would have been really stupid if it was any other way.
Chang’s Confession
Chang’s brief appearance in tonight’s episode made me forget that Season 4 and Changnesia ever happened. Everything Chang was so Chang here, from him stating his full name to the lawyer to him admitting to masterbating in every room. It was perfect. I want more of this Chang from now until Community takes it’s final bow.
Troy and Abed’s Relationship
The one thing that makes me extremely sad about Glover leaving is Troy and Abed’s relationship. It breaks my heart. I heard through the grapevine that Troy will make some appearances hereafter, but that doesn’t do my broken heart must justice. What will happen to Troy and Abed in the Morning? Will Abed find a new best friend? What will he do? I trust that Harmon has a good handle on what’s next but I think I may have a hard time accepting all of this than I thought.
Pierce’s Cause of Death
Again, so Pierce to have everyone get a bottle of his semen in the will. Even better was that he died from dehydration creating all of those bottles. I essentially threw my hands up in the air and said “Harmon, you win!” after the lawyer admitted that in the last 5 minutes. What a perfect end to a great episode episode.
The Quirky Lawyer
I loved this guy. He kind of reminded me of Larry Middleman from Arrested Development (George Bluth’s professional surrogate). As sick and twisted as this sounds, I want to see more of him. Maybe I will get my wish?!
I’m actually looking forward to seeing where Harmon will take this season. We can only hope it won’t end up in the shitter like last season.
