Well, things just do not go as planned for good ol’ Nolan and Irisa. If you could believe me, even the review on SyFy’s own website is just as cynical as me. Maybe they realize there is not much of an audience for this show, yet it is one of their better series currently on air. In any case, the characters get just as sarcastic as within moments of their return to the humble Earth Republic run town of Defiance, Irisa promptly gets herself arrested and Nolan is recruited to catch a bomber. Guess all is forgiven from last season?
Not even kidding. When former Mayor Amanda realizes Nolan is in town, she gets all lovestruck like a school girl, while in an awkward scene which even made me uncomfortable, we are reminded Mayor Pottinger has a stalker-cam, so he watches Nolan and Amanda having sex at the episode’s end. Line crossing a bit?
Perhaps the three-way bath going on in the first ten minutes. Everyone was uncomfortable. Alak Tarr bathing with both wife and mother? Yeech. Mommy also getting uncomfortably close to Christie, and the cameras have no problem showing how close, we just cannot shake the knowledge Stahma Tarr is a sex-freak. She’s going to make out with everyone by the end of the season. I know it.
The middle of the episode is what you would expect. Nolan running around beating people up, catching the culprits and learning about a bomb which is to explode in just minutes. Somehow, in five minutes of television time, a two minute bomb is found underneath the car of Stahma which coincidentally is driving right by Nolan and E-Rep commander Berlin, and he diffuses it. In doing so, he immediately earns the trust from everyone in the town, and gets a smooch from Stahma.
If that is not enough, young Alak nearly botches a mission ordered by his mother, while Datak hatches a plan to get freed from prison, but fails miserably in probably one of Pottinger’s finer moments. Who says all E-Rep folks are bad?
All this, and Irisa is nowhere to be found until the end of the episode, where she rushes off to meet disappointment. Remember Tommy? He became Lawkeeper after Nolan split. I use past tense because Nolan is back, so take a guess as to what happened. However, Tommy has something, I should say someone to go back to, which probably will send Irisa into another murdering frenzy in the next episode.
Boy, do I love future post-alien-war shows! Makes you wish for simpler times.
