Trailer Tuesday: Super 8

logan j. fowler and bill bodkin look at the trailer of the highly anticipated thriller from Steven Spielberg and J.J. Abrams …

Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Theater.
My tickets for Friday have already been purchased. I have been pumped for this flick ever since I saw the trailer; it evokes memories of classic Spielberg (in an E.T. and The Goonies sort of way), and, not surprisingly, Spielberg has slapped his producer sticker on it, which may be why there are bits in the trailer that remind me of his past work. Also, the movie is directed by J. J. Abrams, who has worked on Lost (a show I am currently hooked on), and directed the Star Trek reboot, which I absolutely loved, and that’s coming from some one who is not a huge Star Trek Fan. So with all these elements in place, Super 8 looks to be something original and different this summer season, and I am eager to check it out.

Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Theater.
The trailers for Super 8 have been some of the most intriguing and tantalizing trailers we’ve seen since Inception. The shroud of mystery over what a group of fledgling filmmakers (including Elle Fanning) captured on celluloid has my interest piqued. Yet, it’s the people behind the film that has me more excited than the plot. The thought of J.J. Abrams and Steven Spielberg teaming up to create a film of this nature is a very intriguing prospect. It leads me to believe that not only will the effects work and a heightened sense of wonder will be amped to the max (due to Spielberg’s involvement), but the story and the cinematic work will have us glued to our seats, palms sweating, minds blown (sue to Abrams involvement). This potential combination of epic grandeur and excitement combined with cinematic and literary excellence has me feeling the same way Inception, one of my favorite films of all-time, did prior to its release.
