The BreakCast Episode 5: Talking Movies with Dan Cohen
Words & Hosting: Bill Bodkin, Engineering: Lucas P. Jones
I’m really excited about this podcast.
This is our sixth podcast (the 5th BreakCast). The first five podcasts we’ve done have all revolved around something important. We’ve done two on the Oscars, one on New York Comic Con, one on our five-year anniversary, and one to preview the Asbury Park Surf Music Festival, which we sponsored.
This week we’ve done something completely different. We decided to talk with one of your own. Our staff is full of brilliant, funny, insightful, and creative individuals who express their views in print. However, you can’t always put out how you really feel about something, or just shoot the proverbial ‘shit’ in print, like you can on a podcast. So, I decided, in the spirit of WTF with Marcon Maron and The Art of Wrestling with Colt Cabana, to do a more conversational piece. I wanted to really get inside the minds of the people working for us.
There’s no better place to start than with Pop-Break’s film editor, Dan Cohen. Dan came to Pop-Break in 2011, wanting a place to write film reviews. We soon discovered that Dan is extremely passionate about film, and is not shy about his hatred of shaky cam, Michael Bay, and flat out cinematic stupidity.
So, I sat down with him to talk about all things film. And yes, I knew which buttons to push to exacerbate Dan’s hatred, but we also talk about why we love film. It’s a fun conversation that I hope you all enjoy.
